First Time For Everything

Well its been about 7 months since I've been out of practice. As the title notes its many first times. Not my first grow but here's a list of firsts on this grow.
1. First time growing photo strains. I've only done 3 grows all with autos.
2. First time using Hid lights. I've only grown with led. Solar storm 440.
3. First time growing in a basement. All previous grows have been in a spare bedroom.
4 Will be first time growing autos in veg tent.
5. Will be first time doing training. Plan to try to top/fim and or LST.
6. First time growing in Ohio vs previous grows in Texas. Huge temperature difference.
7. First time doing double grow.
There are other firsts and I'll list them as they come up.
OK. The plan... I have a 1000 watt HP's/ mh set up and solar storm led, 15 seeds. 5 auto white widow by pyramid, 5 critical kush by Barney's and 5 Wappa by paradise. All but 1 wappa germinated successfully. I replaced that with a freebie starbud by hortilab. Any tried any of these? I was impressed with the auto wappa and decided to do the other. I plan to veg all together in 5x5 tent under solar storm 440 for first couple of weeks then for 60+ days in 7 gallon smart pots. Autos are in 5 gallon nursery pots. But only filled with 3 1/2 gallons. Why? I'm planning to use sub's super soil mix which I'll fill the other 1 1/2 gallons with later. I'll top feed these only. ( super soil use...another first.) Got two tents 4x4 and 5x5. Vegging all together in 5x5 but will flower same strains in 4x4 wappa from 8am to 8 pm and ck from 8pm to 8am. OK let me catch you up to where I am. With so many firsts for me there are bound to be lots of problems. First had difficulty setting up fan filter combo inside tent. Im happy with the tent ( Apollo horticulture) but could use more cross bars up top. So ran the ducting through a vent and into the dining room. Like in the pic. So got everything hooked up. Popped germed seeds in pots/cups and installed solar storm 440. However basement is 61 degrees and led didn't raise tent but a few degrees. Threw incandescent bulb with lamp. Still only 64 degrees. Also Humidity was also only around 20. Omfg. They suffered the first few days and grew very slowly. Finally HP's/mh came in mail. Hooked it up immediately with air cooled hood. Can you believe the tent with 6" fan with hood on lowest setting only brought the tent to around 65. Lol. Wtf? Next day detached the the ducting from hood and just let it hang not pulling hot air out. Also added incandescent bulb with lamp and finally temps are finally 70- 74 steady. Whew close call. But I only have the power at 50%, so 500 watts. They are doing better now. Here's a few pics.

Sorry for my long but I wanted to catch you guys up on my grow as hoping this is the start of this grow journal. Please stick cause I'm sure I'll be able to use your opinions and suggestions. Thanks

Yo Bro, noticed everyone was reading but not giving anything back so heres my first tip. lose the incandescents and utilise a d.i.y thermal jacket. ' old king size duvet thrown over the top of your tent (12+tog should suffice) with holes cut out for ventilation or doorways.

other than that nice to see people putting thought into there grows stage by stage.

Thanks for the reply swims. But wth is a duvet? Guess I'll google it. Lol. If it works I can save the extra few bucks on running that 100 watt incandescent 24/7. Plus once I increase the wattage to 750/ 1000 in a couple of weeks I'll need neither. Thanks again fa sho bruh.

in the u.k<< sorry. Duvet/Quilt/Bed Cover. the thick polyester stuff. ive always got a couple sitting in my loft. the bigger the better. they keep us warm at night :)

also sliding a piece of thick carpet under your tent will keep in the warmth lost to that cold concrete floor.

you will still need to monitor your darkness temperature, as i suspect soon as that light gos out your gonna lose heat within the hour. maybe invest in a cheap 150w bathroom heater to put behind or down the side of your tent. there designed to make warmth and they get more efficient every year. i found a 2.5kw commercial electric heater that had an A* energy rating on ebay??? like wtf??

Oh OK I got it. Lol. I used one on a previous grow to help with light leaks on a cheap tent. I have a few extras laying around. Maybe I'll give it a try for this purpose also.

I wish i could super like this post, I STILL use Duvet covers to pin over windows, to stop light getting in, keep warmth in the winter and most of all so my home doesn't look like a giant light bulb to the outside world when I open my grow room doors. (Most of my light on cycles are night time based).

Pro's:
- Utilise a cheaper electric tariff @ Night
- Use's 1kw but pay only pay for 500w...
- OR use twice as much for the same price :)
- The grow room heats my home during the night time when my heating is off (between 19-21'c)
- My home keeps the growroom warm during the daytime when the lights are OFF, because my homes heating is on, constantly set to (20'C)
- Grow room is cooled by colder night air which also provides less pollutants if you wanna go far left right organic... no cars on the road etc.

The only Con I've found:
-I like to sleep at nightime, actually i must sleep at night, i have to be up at 7am which allows me a 4-5hr window where i can play around in my grow room everyday, but the 24hr timelapses are worth it. everyday you notice new growth. if you miss a day you notice even more the next so in a way its not that big a con :) stops you messing around with em too when they should be left alone :)

p.s... could you not keep this plants in a few card board boxes for now under cfls? you putting out an awfull lot of power for seedlings that cant even utilise 5% of that light over the next few weeks,

see below:
this a 3ftx3ftx3ft space in an airing/water tank cupboard
believe it or not but I can fit 12 of those boxes inside there,
you obv wouldn't need the box just the 3ft sq space with maybe 2x 100w cfls in there

A little update. I've only had one person comment so far so maybe this will catch a few ppls attention. These pics are from day 20 and 21 since sprouted from seed.

OK guess they don't want me to post anymore. Lol. From now on I guess I'll stick to just posting the autos. Tallest girl is wwa at 10 inches. Shortest is only 5 1/2 inches. But the taller ones are more skinny and longer between nodes while the shorter ones are close in nodes and bushy as hell.
