I have a 400 watt HPS and i'm growing bagseed in soil using Miracle Grow ferts (don't go off on me about that... i know better now for the next grow.) It's very difficult to dose properly and early on it was really hard to keep from burning the plants even with very infrequent applications and half strength mixture. Anyways...
I've been lurking since I planted (oct 1) and now I wanna share because i'm ramping up for my first harvest here in a week or so and i have a couple of questions. First of all let me say I have three plants. One i call Hermie cuz... well you get the idea. The other i call "the badass plant" and the last i call "the fucked up plant" cuz well... it's fucked up...
Hermie hermied late in flower and only seems to have poped up a few seeds so far (maybe 15 or 20) and i'm 8.5 weeks into flowering so i'm hoping that's all there is (been pinching the DudeParts off.) Fortunately it didn't cross pollinate any of my other ladies (so far as i can tell) so i'm just gonna let it go and harvest it regardless because i already chopped 1 hermie 2 weeks into flower and it pissed me off.
The badass plant really is exactly that. It's the picture perfect grow. Everything with that plant went exactly as it was supposed to and it now has fatass bud sites, a huge top cola and all cloudy trichomes with yellowing fan leaves and receding brown pistils. Wish they all had grown like that... guess that's what i get for using bagseed. I'm gonna let that one go to about 30-50% amber before i chop her. I wanna get stupid off that one.
This brings us to the fucked up plant. It sprouted up rather tall during the first week or so of flowering and towers above my other 2 plants by a good 8-12 inches. I'm sure it has more sativa in it than the rest. I should have tied it down but i didn't wanna screw anything up so i left it alone. Now i know. My ventilation system failed for a day and all the plants took some heat stress. Hermie and the badass plant rebounded ok after a week or so but the fucked up plant just... stayed fucked up. The leaves curled under and have been that way since although the plant continues to grow fatter every day. The leaves didn't die off they're just curled up. Still perfectly green and otherwise healthy looking (other than being fucked up.) Here's my problem....
Being 8.5 weeks into flowering i'm getting tell tale signs of ripeness so i took a small bud from each of the plants for sampling and evaluation... plus i'm out of weed and i wanted to get high. I took 2 days to dry the bud samples in front of the air vents blowing heat in my home. Hermie and the badass plant smoke wonderfully. I got stoned off my ass from both of them (smoked on two separate occasions.) So i'm gonna let those finish up for about another week to 10 days and then chop em. The fucked up plant however didn't hit me hardly at all. I'm guessing it's most likely because it's mostly sativa and those take longer so i'm HOPING that it'll finish up ok with some more time. The trichomes are mostly milky with a small percentage of clear left. No amber on this plant yet.
Before you ask... my lights are off and i cant take a picture today. Will try and post one tomorrow.
So far i'm on track to pull what i estimate to be about 1.5 ounces off the badass plant. The cola and second bud site down looks like it will yield close to a half on it's own... damn i wish i had taken clones but i didn't know what the fuck i was doing... still don't but i've learned alot. The fucked up plant LOOKS like it'll yield big but it's hard to tell because the buds are very fluffy right now. The other two plants are pretty tight budded so i feel as though i can estimate their weight more accurately because the buds have a density more like what i'm used to.
If everything turns out well i'm hoping to yeild 3+ ounces which for my first grow i'll be very happy about. Next grow i'm going hydroponics, DWC to be specific. I already have the unit built and functional and as soon as i harvest this crop i'm going to switch out my hps for metal halide and start vegging some hydro. I also plan on ordering seeds in a couple of days to avoid this whole "luck of the draw" thing. Hopefully they'll be here within a month.
Anyways... is there anything I can do to help the fucked up plant along or should i just sit tight and wait it out to see what happens? Could it be bad genetics? If it WERE more sativa based AND still had 3-4 more weeks should the smoke still get me high or will it not hit like it's supposed to until it's farther along?
I've enjoyed typing out my current situation for you guys. I welcome any and all comments and i offer my gratitude for all the information you guys have provided and will provide. I wouldn't have gotten as far as i have without this community.
