First grow!

Ok. So after reading about 50 pages of Pennywise619 (great journal). im ready to get started.
I got seeds from a friend, so im germinating 8 seeds in a ziploc bag in wet paper towels, and will check them in 24 hours.

I have a set up of 6 26w cfl's.
I have organic soil. .10-.05-.05

I plan on setting up 8 16ounce red plastic cups w/ the organic soil, and place them under my setup.

What should my watering be like?? is that soil ok to use??
anything else i should know for know??

i just started to, and the first mistake i made was over watering. i am using party cups as well, and now i only water every 4-6 days. any more than that and you will be over watering them

Yea that's right, I've also over watered my first grow.. Only makes you a better grower in the end..

is there a certain way of knowing when your plants need water? gardening will be a brand new hobby for me.
should i cut holes in my big cups for vegging??

Also, how can i post up pics in my reply's?

40 hours later, seeds are uncracked. will check back tommorow
should i wet them??

If you're growing in party cups, which I am too it should be pretty easy to know when they are dry. It will be much lighter and the leaves on the plant will start to look droopy. I always wait until they are droopy to water and then soak them. Imo it makes them stronger that way. Good luck

Oh, and are you starting the seeds in paper towels or in the soil. It seems to take longer if in the soil. If you are doing it in a paper towel I've found really good success by putting them in a baggie and putting them in a real warm place like under my waterbed. Usually have them cracked in under 12 hours. Make sure they are plenty wet, I've had them grow in a glass of water before.

They are in a ziplock bag on top of my tv. il wet the napkin inside the bag more and see what results i get overnight

ok, about 72 hours in. it looks like one of my seeds has got some white shit comiing out. hopefully they are goinig to crack soon. i moved the baggie to underneath my bed. will check in another 24.

hmm 4 days in, seeds not cracking. any ideas?? They are wet and in a ziplock bag under the matress

okey, 5 days..no sign of seeds opening up. Im wondering if i should do some construction to them, razor blade the bottoms off?? or should i give them more time??
