First grow questions about leaf color

Hi, this is my first post. The seeds are c99 from joey weed and germinated about 12 days ago. I have a 4' 4x52W T5 fluorescent which supposedly produce 5,000 lumens each. The other plant that you will see in the pictures was from a brick weed seed (its a sideshow and mostly for the experience). I adjust the ph of the water to about 6.5. Until recently I watered once or twice a day. The medium is miracle gro 'organic choice' The guy at home depot told me it wouldn't burn young roots but im not sure. It contains "sphagnum peat moss and composted bark fines Natural fertilizers provide both quick- and slow-release feeding." There are some pebbles mixed in the soil and a lot in the bottom for drainage. The problem is that some of the plants have very purple stems and the leaves are slightly purple w/ lots of purple on the edges. The leaves are also pale. The plants with this problem are in the center of the light(meaning they get more light than the 2 plants on the edge of the light which appear healthier).
1)Could the MG cause root problems?
2)Was the light too close? (it was 2" away from plant tops and I moved it back to 3")
3)Are the purple edged leaves caused by a nutrient problem or is it natural?
4)Are the plants small for their age?(the plant in the second picture is their representative)
5)Could the paleness of the leaves be from over watering?
6) Why are the leaves on the large plant brown?
7) Have I made any flagrant mistakes? For example will 4x 4' 5k lumen be enough for for 3 or 4 plants? (I am raising 7 in 4x3 gal. pots and will remove the males later)
I would appreciate any help or input.
