First Grow Question: Need Advise Choosing Carbon Filter

First off, greetings everyone. I am brand new here and brand new to growing. From what I've seen from grow room photos I have a unique situation and I would really appreciate help in understanding what I need to get to succeed in the carbon air filter area. I'm only growing four plants using a DWC outfit with a 600W HPS. My room is large for my needs: 13 feet long, 17 feet wide, 8 feet height and it has two doors that open into other parts of the house. I have two fans: one drawing air in the room and the other drawing it out the other door. I need to install a carbon filter/fan system. I have three possible exit options: 1) I can expel the air after it's been filtered into an enjoining room as long as there is no odor. 2) There is an old pipe that used to be used for a wood burning stove that travels from the ceiling of the room to the roof. I believe the pipe's exit was roofed over but in the colder months I can still feel air coming in. I may be able to exit the air through the pipe if the volume isn't too much (any thoughts specifically on this idea?) 3. I can expel out a window but it would be near ground level and I do have neighbors. I did the math and my room is 1,768 cubic feet. Divided by 3 for how many minutes I want the room to be ventilated I came up with 590 cfm. Adding in for some additional factors like temp of light and for using a carbon filter I need a filter around 620 cfms. Do I need such a large filter for four plants? I'll get whatever is required for security but that's a large pricey outfit for four little plants. Any advice gurus? I would appreciate it. - Thanks, Shiva Leaf

The stovepipe is your best bet for exhaust. Get on the roof and see if they haven't just capped it or screwed a cover over it. Even if iy exhausts into the attic it beats into occupied living space.

Go read every bit of this first please. Save time, money and aggravation. But go big to grow big. I have become focused on advising on air here. Everybody - I mean everybody - has their lights picked out and their nutrients and pH stuff and yadda yadda. Fans though?

Standard sold packages 4" or 6". Inline. That's all that comes with the packages on eBay and the web so that is all you need right? "A Complete Package".

Go big to grow big on air, containers (my next biggest gripe) and lights. In that order!

Does anyone know if for odor control I need to circulate the entire room (see my calculations above) or can I use a smaller filter for four plants? The room is obviously huge for four small plants.

deejay, I believe so. As I stated above there are two ways I can expel it outdoors. There is an old pipe from a wood stove that was roofed over but I can still feel air coming in on colder days so I might be able to send it through the pipe. The only danger being I sure hope I don't damage the fan because the flow can't get out fast enough. I can also go through a window but it's ground level. The real problem is choosing the right carbon filter / fan combo. What size? I believe I need a 620 cfm but man, they're expensive for four plants! LOL Thanks for asking!
