First grow [ Nirvana's Ice - Soil - CFLs ]

Hey all. New to these forums, and new to growing, but I've been told my plants are doing pretty darn good for my first grow and CFLs! Here are some pictures from yesterday. Both Ice plants turned out to be female.

A little about my setup:

• 2x2x3 Cabinet. I just ordered some mylar, should be coming in tomorrow.
• DIY carbon filter attached to the top. 2x ~30 CFM computer fans acting as the exhaust.
• 2 oscilating fans inside of the cab for air flow
• All CFLs. Using 4 24w 2700k bulbs and 2 24w 6500k bulbs for the 2 plants.
• Temps are around 80. Humidity around 32%, can't seem to get it any higher.
• I've done lots of LST so far. That is the only training.
• Using FF Tiger Bloom for flowering nutes

This grow is mainly just to get a good mother so I can start doing clones. Once I have a mom, I am going to upgrade my setup. I will use my current cab as the mom/clone chamber, and I will purchase a bigger one to house a 250w or a 400w HPS, haven't decided yet. I will then do a SoG grow for a perpetual harvest.

That's about it I think to catch you guys up. Here are some pics from the camera phone. My 21st birthday is coming up soon, so I will have a nice digital camera soon.

Ice is one of my favorites from Nirvana. Brutal, overwhelming high (for some it is too much!...hahaha). It can really pack a wallop!
I have no experience with CFLs, but have grown Ice many times with 400W and 600W HPS.

I'm looking forward to you sampling the potency of your harvested Ice buds....fast-forward*lol*

That is great to hear Wavels! You're the first person I've come across that has actually tried Nirvana's Ice. Could you tell me if it is mostly Indica or Sativa? I have seen some websites naming it Indica, and others Sativa... so I'm not really sure!

IMO, Ice provides a really potent indica effect, with a little sativa spacieness for the old head.
Almost everyone I know, upon trying it for the first time, says something like...."where did you get this stuff"? Or they think it’s laced with something else!.....*lol*
My preferred pheno grows more indica; short and blocky, with a strong odor....intense frost. As the buds ripen, they start to give off a smell reminiscent of the fuel I used to put in my little Cox engines when I was a tike!
All of the Ice phenos are good....but the shorter stinkier one is great!

I think it is supposedly a skunk crossed with White Widow or similar.

dude i envy you so much. when i first saw all of nirvanas seeds back in the day i wanted the ice ones the most! and your plants look flawless. LUCKY ;P

lucky? no he is smart, he took care of his plant. he even did a decent LST, but he used CFL's. When his girls are finished and ready to harvest he is going to have shitty popcorn bud, not tight resien covered buds from a HPS. He will atleast grow somthing tho, so good job TheHardMargin.

P.S - Get a FREAKIN MH/HPS system so you can DO that method over again and really get some yeilds, you will be surprized.

Another CFL flowerer!!! AWW MAN U GUYS ARE MY INSPIRATION.. especially when you see the killer nugs this plant is making! awesome job..props for this grow!

thats only a halfway fair statement, I mean ur sayin hes gonna have shitty popcorn buds, but he's only 9 days into flowering, he's still got 47 days left (at least) till he's done flowering, and those nugs can quadruple (4x) in size. I mean I always had suspicions that HPS/MH were over rated for growing, and this grow seals that thought for me..I mean look at those last pics!

but in all fairness, if he did repeat the grow and used a HPS/MH his yeild would be higher, not only that but the plants would grow a lot faster too...

ive seen many cfl grows, ull be suprised at how potent the finished product is.

I'm going to have to disagree with you TillthedayIdie. I have seen plenty of CFL grows where very nice buds come out of it. Obviously they won't be as good as an HID grow. But I am currently limited in what I can do so. I guess we will see though. Here is an update:

There are a few light burns on the tips. The Plant 1's top has brown hairs already from bumping up against the CFL reflectors and getting bruised. I think I see a little deficiency as well, just not sure what it is.

Dude no its not a halfway fair statement, Growing under cfl's sucks even if you get 10, you are going to have shit yields.. and No they cannot quadruple, unless he is useing a HPS... How the fuck do you think plants grow? More light = more bud.

Mh/HPS are overrated? are you kidding...... when it comes to growing more light = more and better growth. more buds.

so this grow can seal it for you, but that just means you amature. if you had eny knowledge you would know the facts.

Side by side a CFL grown plant and HPS grown plant same type, you will see the differnce, CFL grow popcorn bud... FLuffy crap... HPS grow tight resin covered buds....

IM not saying his plants dont look beautiful.... because they do.
but they could look 90% better with a HPS.

Looks more then fine. Sorry, but I have seen CFL grows that can rival HID grows. You can supplemenent more light using LEDs which uses what.. only about 8 watts of power? UVB lights help as well.

Why the attitude? bcuz I said U were making a halfway fair statement?
I coulda swore I said I agree with you that the yeild would not be the same, and that the plants would grow quicker and larger...

but as far as U making a judgement on the way his plants will turn out when he was only on day 9 of flowering isnt fair at all. You cant see the future, so how do you know he will only get shitty popcorn buds? Bcuz he's using CFL's? Everyones grow is different, and U never know what his strain is capable of doing unless U have grown it yourself. and he's only using 6 CFL's for 2 plants! how do you know what would change if he used 12, 24, or 48 CFLS? would it be shitty? according to you, no matter how many you use, in the end the results will be shitty," bcuz MH/HPS are the only way to go! That is such a closed-minded and outdated way of thinking. It doesnt matter what level of grow I am on, if I am convinced that CFL's are good for growing,thats my opinion. are they better than MH/HPS? hell no! but you can still get a great quality product with them. MH/HPS is not the ONLY way to go, buts at the moment it is only second best to the sun....thats what I believe and anyone who disagrees with that is gonna have to deal with it.

There is always room for improvement in every grow, even the best grower has room to improve. But if a person so chooses to have 6 CFL's to grow, who are you to tell them that their product is gonna be shitty if your not a psychic? Even if you grew with CFL's and had a shitty product, doesnt mean his product will be shitty, bcuz you have your way of growing and he has his...(lol alliteration is funny)..

so if you chose to respond, remember I never questioned the validity of your statement, only the fairness of it.

^^Exactly, and also it matters a lot what the grower does...not JUST what type of lights they use. But its ok, Im not even tryin to argue with a "Professional" fellow Pot Grower..bcuz Im just an amature, but THM you have my support, you're growing a great looking plant and I want you to finish this journal to prove to not just me and TTDID420 but to everyone that you are capable of growing great with CFL's.
