Hey folks!

After reading and enjoying so many journals on rollitup I have decided to create my own. This is my first attempt growing, especially in DWC.
Any comments/suggestions are welcome!

The setup:

Grow Tent:
Lighthouse Hydro 3'X1.7'X5'
Lights: 400W HPS and MH bulbs, custom made hood to transfer cold air from the bottom and exhaust the air outside the tent from the top.
Exhaust: 4" Inline 190 CFM, taking air from the carbon filter. 80 CFM 4" exhaust fan for cooling down the light.
Intake: Window AC unit with custom made tunnel that brings cool air to the bottom of the tent.
Also 2 6" fans from Walmart that circulate air inside the tent.

The "bucket":
18 Gallon bucket from Walmart.
2 Air pumps with 6" and 10" air stones (in case one fails).
180 GPH water pump with drip system.
5" hydro pots filled with hydroton.

Advanced Nutrients:
Sensi grow A+B /Bloom for later on
B-52
Voodoo juice
Bud candy
Big bud
Overdrive
Piranha
Also for healthier roots I'm using H2O2 + Aquashield.

The plants:

#1 DOB: 5/9 - 1 and a half week old. (Genetics: Unknown, but came from top shelf weed)
#2 DOB: 5/16 - less than a week old. (Genetics: Unknown, again came from 100% top shelf dank)
#3-5 are Northern Lights from Nirvana, about few days old.

#1 Seems to have droopy leaves, roots look healthy , temp was gone to 88 - may have caused stress/overheat. 108_0859.jpg108_0860.jpg108_0861.jpg108_0862.jpg

Im subed on this one. Sounds good to me. I have used a dwc for several years with great success. This really sounds like the grow i had qhen i started my hydro journey. Happy growing. If you have any questions please let me know. Pics would be great to.

I usually try to stay away from uesing aluminum foil, it tends to creat hot spots. It is possible the reason that one of them is droopy is that it is a little over watered. You have to remeber that they are young and dont have a very long root length. What are you growing them in. Rockwool. If that is the case what is yu dph. The rockwool can get over saturated starving the roots from oxygen.

Hey, thanks for the quick reply! I was reading your journal, your plants look awesome! Hopefully one day there will be enough space in my room to grow in the same system size as yours.
I decided not to go with rockwool and stick with Rapid Rooter plugs to give the plants more "natural" environment. Regarding over watering, I did fill up the reservoir more than usually but there are tons of bubbles under the plant.

Are the plugs soaking wet? Im just wondering if the anout on air that the roots are receiving is justnot enough for the babes at this time. Also i started using a dripper when i started my dwc but quickly relized that is the roots are in or touching water then the drippers were pretty much unnecessarily. Is there a gap between the pots and the water or are they right up to them or in them?

The plugs are moist but defiantly not soaking wet. Regarding the drip system, it is unnecessary but it keeps circulating the nutes around and helps me emptying the reservoir between refills (15 gallons of water are not light to lift, haha). Also here are pics of the root system and the water level- which touches the pots but does not cover them completely108_0863.jpg108_0864.jpg.

Evening update: #1 has his leaves back up. All I did is removing the aluminum foil around the plant and lowering the temps in the tent. Seems like heat was the issue.

Thats good to hear. Foil is never good. I hear ya on emptying the res. I have a pump that i drop in my res to empty alot of them. I also found it good to if your not going to use the drip system just to leave the pump in the res on its side and it will curculate the tank, insead of using the drip. I did that when i was using foxfarm nuts. works like a charm.

Evening update 5/22

Added Aquashield and H2O2 to the reservoir in order to keep roots white and healthy. PH was gone to 6.3, after adding some PH down brought it to 5.9. Temps also jumping from 72 to 86, all due to the air conditioner - if its on AC mode for too long temps get cold but humidity drops to 30%, if AC mode is down humidity grows back to %50-%60 but same grows the temp.
NL #3 seem to given up but that alright, 4 plants in total is more than enough for my grow tent.
#1 is growing like crazy, starts to smell danky.

Evening update 5/24

Finally my inline speed controller arrived, now that its quiet I can turn it on 24/7. This plus adjusting my 2 inside fans stabilized the temp/humidity jump that the tent suffered from days ago.
#1 was fimmed early - Pics below.
NL #3 was replaced with a seedling I found growing in my soil. - Unknown strain.
So far so good. PH is stable around 6 and temps are 70-81 degrees.

Regular update 5/28

Old reservoir was replaced with one I made myself. Drip system was removed and made only 4 net pot holes. All in order to reduce light penetrating the reservoir which was causing algae all over the place. Added nutes (Grow A+B, H2O2, Aquashield, B-52, Voodoo juice) all under 1/4 of the recommended power, PPM- 460, PH - 5.4.

#1 Was a bit overburned by the H2O2 solution but seems recovering now, pic 3 shows new growth in the area where the fimming was done. *note to self- dilute the mix with water first.
#2 Shows great growth improvement , see pic 4.
NLs are also doing fine.

Emergency update 5/30 - PLEASE HELP!

Ever since the reservoir was changed and flushed both #1 and #2 have their condition getting worse by the hour. Droopy leaves, purple stem.
PH in the morning was at 6.1, dropped it down to 5.4, PPM is still around 450 (tap water is 160-170). Temp is around 80 +- 5.

New growth keeps coming but the old leafs are about to die.

Water level in the reservoir was lowered yesterday and H2O2 was added - all in case the plants are lacking air.

NL's seems to do just fine.

6/4 - After the storm update

Woah, it was an intense week. So many symptoms all due to one problem - root death. It seems that whatever I added to the res (high concentration of H2O2 prolly) killed my root system. All 4 plants started new root growth and seem recovering.

As of right now: pH 5.8, PPM ~650, temp- 78

Will need to drop PPM in case plants show signs of nute burn.

6/6 Great progress !

The plants are doing fantastic (knock on wood). New root growth looks amazingly white, plants are exploding in size. Wondering when first signs of over-fertilization will show. After all the PPM is around 650. But so far so good, maybe they like it this way. Also #1 (biggest plant) was topped yesterday.

Current status: pH 6.0, PPM 650-700, temp- 77-84.

Today I took a photo of each plant separately (smallest ones are NL), check em:

6/9 Plant #1 overtaking my tent

3 days since my last update, plants are still doing great. #1 has overgrown over my NL, had to twist the pot a bit to allow more light for NL.
#2 was topped, also shows great progress.
It seems that #1 starts to show early sex identification, can't figure yet though. Maybe you can determine if its a male or female, check pics.

Current status: pH 5.5 (was 6.0 in the morning), PPM ~700, temp- 73-82.

Also, check em roots.

6/14 - Down to 3 plants

Long time no write. My biggest #1 plant turned out to be a male, as you can see in the photos it no longer exist in my grow tent. Currently drying #1 in order to make some brownies with it.
Luckily my 2 other plants are 99% female. One is still unknown but it is a feminized NL.

pH stable at ~5.8, temp:70-80, humidity: 50-80 (most of the time 50-60).

Here are the photos (they are 2 days old):
(1) My male plant right after removing it from my tent.
(2) 3 plants left, 1 bagseed 2 Nirvana NL
(3) Roots of my dead male
(4) Bagseed plant close up at the early female flowering.

6/17 Congratulations! It's a girl! (3 actually)

Sup, we've got 3 confirmed girls growing up. Nice inner structure, very bushy. They are about one month old right now but I'm considering switching to 12/12 next weekend.
Bagseed plant showing tiny dark spots on leaves, nothing serious.

pH 5.9, PPM 750, temp - 75~80.

And some pics:
(1)- Bagseed is leftmost. Both plants on the right are Nirvana NL.
(2)- NL inner structure.
