First grow, CFL all the way (crappy pics)

So this is the early stage of my first setup.
My friend pretty much took my materials and threw together this setup while i was at work yesterday, and gave me 6 of his young plants(unknown strains, mostly bagseed). I like it for this stage, but i dont have much of a way to adjust the lights as the plants grow.
I definitely have plans to scrog this grow, but how that is going to fit into the current setup is beyond me.
So chances are, my entire growroom is going to have to be rethought and rebuilt once i make more concrete plans for my babies.
but for now this is what it is.
sorry about the shitty quality, i had to take them with my webcam. better shots and more pics of the plants to come.

Good luck man. Don't over water them. Don't over fertilize them. And don't harvest too early. Those are the big 3 that everyone F's up.
lol Looks like you've already got the overwatering part down.
Happy growing.

The roots should not be able to see light. I would just throw some tinfoil or construction paper around the pots, unless you plan on transplanting as soon as you see roots. I've never used the scrog method but I currently use the LST technique and it works wonders. Ive also heard it's a lot easier. What ever it is that you need help with (that your friend can't help you with) just post on this thread and there tons of people who would be glad to help.:leaf:https://www.rollitup.org/indoor-growing/6834-how-lst-low-stress-training.html

i was planning to transplant as soon as i saw roots, but uve got me sketching now, so i made a temporary fix until i move them into better pots.

Also, i have some questions about the watering issue if anyone would care to help. First, if u can tell at all from the pics, do these guys look overwatered, or underwatered? i just got them yesterday, so im not really sure how theyve been cared for up until now. Also, what is a good amount of water to give at each watering? i know its a stupid question, but i cant seem to find a good consistent answer to it.

There isn't a good consistant answer. There are too many variables. Soil composition, temperature, humidity, plant size, plant type, air movement.....the list goes on. Its not rocket science it's watering a plant. Using the right soil with good drainage is key. With real good soil its difficult to overwater.
For a general rule of thumb I like the "lift your pot" method. A wet pot is heavy, and a dry one is very light. Lift your pot (cup or whatever) after everytime you water. feel how heavy it is. When you lift it and its light (the difference is easy to tell water is very heavy) water it again.
How MUCH water? Water till it runs out the bottom. Thats the easy part.
How OFTEN? Totally depends. When you pick up the pot and its light and dry.
Cup= every other day (ish)
pot= every 3-4 days (ish)
bucket= once a week (ish)

just water em when the soil is dry. List up the pot right after a good soaking to get a feel for the heft of it, then water it when it feels much much lighter. I've got 2 plants in 2 gallon pots, each about 6-7 weeks old and they need a good drink every other day.

I'm doing my first CFL cab grow as well, check out the journal in my sig, maybe you could find something helpful in there! Happy Growing!
