First ever coco grow

Hey everybody , I am a beginner that's started my very own coco grow. I have 5 seedlings(about 4 days old) in styrofoam cups, which is filled with straight coco. I do have some perlite and vermiculite if they are needed. I have been giving them only ph'ed ro water only because I do not know when u should start feeding them. I do have GH flora series and some calmag plus on hand. I've heard when the third set of leaves grow then that would be a good starting point but 3/5 have them but barley noticeable. I have to look pretty close to realize they are there, I need experienced heads advice plz I want this grow to be successful. Oh yeah I have them under 1000w equivalent cfls. 6 2700k 4 6500k . Hoping to use them for the grow but if I need to I can double the bulbs to 2000w equivalent . I do have a 1000w hps but I dnt have adequate enough ventilation for all that heat it produces or the funds to upgrade... I'm looking for 2-3 oz from each can someone tell me if that's possible with my setup

whats the actual wattage of your lights not the equivilant?
Try asking more specific questions, general questions like what will I yield or how do I grow almost never get good responses there is just to much information on the subject already out there for people to bother answering

The best advice I ever got on this forum for coco:
Test the ppm/ec of your nutes before feeding. Then check the ppm/ec of the run off. If it is lower, you are okay. If the runoff has a higher ppm/ec, then you are over feeding.

Good luck.

I would say its about 240w true watts being used

So when is time to transplant should I leave in straight coco or it would be best to add some perlite or vermiculite

if you are using straight coco you will after add nutes as theres none already in the coco like soil and always keep it wet as it likes to be treated as hydro.....

i had many issue but with great help and links from RIU members im back on track.... you will find just about all you need on my thread here

i would also say its critical to research coco as i use to treat it like soil

Have to point out thats not true. I get what you mean but , Coco dose have elements in it already, especially if you buy the pre fluffed, buffered stuff.(and the brick have loads of K)
also coco has high amounts of K naturally in it. Im also sure it has abit of P,and Cal. Guess it depends on the coco source/grade etc. The idea is to feed the coco so that the C.E.C is full, and will give readily to the plants, and not steal it away before they can use it.

If you want real info try the drain to waste sub forum, or the idiots guide to coco. Not that your an idiot, thats just what the thread is called.

Grass city(not as good as R.I.U.) has a huge thread by a guy called ask ed( not the real Ask ed). If you google ask ed coco it should come up. Thats got all the detail on coco, including different supplements, and different mix ratios of coco to perlite, and a mix that you could use to get to flower with by just adding water,, so yeah,,so versatile this stuff.

Also depending you could treat coco like soil, but to get the benefits of coco you have to treat it like hydro. Hell i have read about people pushing 5 feeds a day with 800-1000ppm in 2 gallon pots, so it can be done.

when you ask to mix your coco with perlite, why not try it? Then you will know.
I have some coco clones and there is a small difference between the growth of the straight coco, and the coco/perlite mix 70/30. But then im using bio nova coco bricks, and that is a very fine grade, like pith and dust, so i thought it kinda needed the perlite, but im trying one with out to see if theres a massive difference,

sorry rambling now,,

take it easy and good luck.

240w of cfl isn't enough for 5 plants to go all the way through flower, its fine for the first couple weeks but by the time ur flowering ur going to want 100 actual watts per plant or your buds will be airy and ur plant will stretch. Start feeding nutes at 3 weeks or if the plant starts to show N deficancy

So it's best to amp up the lighting supply? I was originally aiming for 2000w equivalent which is about 480 true watts, do you think that would be suitable cuz I can definitely add on to da supply

Straight coco and use the lucas method for coco. It's too simple. In theory, all RO water should be about the same. But it's not. I've only found a few who are the right PH so when you mix your nutes it comes out to an almost perfect 5.8 everytime. So findout who around you caries water, get some purified drinking water. Mix thebluxas method up. If you ph it and it says 5.7 5.8 or 5.9 you have a good source and a are set for the rest. If it gets too high, tryba different source of water. I know what works and don't even need to Ph my water now. But I do random tests every so often just to make sure it is still the same. Lucas method, bro

Yeah, i wasnt meaning to correct you or have a go, but just wanted people to know, im new to coco ,from hydro and soil and im in love with the stuff...
canna actually did a video this week on there 'need to know' webpage about coco. A few in accuracies but still some good info.
Also coco green i think its called, read about it the other day on this site i think,,, they are a manufacture of coco and sell it to all the big companies, but there website is worth a look, had some good info on the actual elemental analysis of the coco grades etc. and you cam buy it straight of them,,in what ever grade/mix you want,,i think, or at least in bulk..
I know there is a difference between the different companies coco grades/mix but none the less love coco.

Anyhow happy growing and take it easy..
