Will having my 250watt HID light too close to the mylar pose a fire threat? I have a grow box in my cabinet and everyting is pretty snug. Id say the light is hanging less than 1/2 inch from thhe mylar walls not toching but close...how hot does the metal frame of these lights get?

I'm a retired firefighter and I would say that if any part of the unit that is very warm (uncomfortable to touch for more than a few seconds) is too close to a combustible material (such as mylar) could be a fire hazard, yes.:peace:

Any recommendations/alternatives? Or should I just go with white painted walls?
Use flat white paint. Don't get the gloss or semi-gloss shit. It's almost as reflective and doesn't wear out and get dirty like mylar does.:weed:

When you grow you ALWAYS pose a threat of having a fire, you're more likely to cause an electrical fire then having the mylar catch on fire, but it is a possibility. A 400W is not much to worry about though...most computers draw 300-400W of power during usage. Most modern houses have around a 1000-1500W cap before you start blowing breakers.
