fire hazard??????

Will having my 250watt HID light too close to the mylar pose a fire threat? I have a grow box in my cabinet and everyting is pretty snug. Id say the light is hanging less than 1/2 inch from thhe mylar walls not toching but close...how hot does the metal frame of these lights get?

The link above is the type of light system I have, its in a box about 7ft tall 3.5ft wide and 3ft deep. The box is in my closet and has ac air cooling the roomdown, also fans circulating and one 3.5 in exhaust fan on top the box above the lights pulling hot air out.

Need feedback plz... I know we got some very experianced growers on here, a minute of yor time would really help this 1st time grower.

I'm a retired firefighter and I would say that if any part of the unit that is very warm (uncomfortable to touch for more than a few seconds) is too close to a combustible material (such as mylar) could be a fire hazard, yes.

Any recommendations/alternatives? Or should I just go with white painted walls?

Use flat white paint. Don't get the gloss or semi-gloss shit. It's almost as reflective and doesn't wear out and get dirty like mylar does.

When you grow you ALWAYS pose a threat of having a fire, you're more likely to cause an electrical fire then having the mylar catch on fire, but it is a possibility. A 400W is not much to worry about though...most computers draw 300-400W of power during usage. Most modern houses have around a 1000-1500W cap before you start blowing breakers.
