Trimming is rarely a good idea. You just removed half of the plants power genertators! Each leaf generates power that the plant uses by photosynthesizing! Nature knows what to do and will YELLOW the leaves before dropping them. This yellowing is the plant USING nutrients in the leaf to build itself up (i.e. make more bud). Now the plant has to heal itself for a while at every spot where you sliced into it before it can focus it's energy BACK to producing flowers. Here is another lesson you learned for next time: The leaves make the buds. the buds don't do much photosynthesizing on their own.

The leafs suck the energy, storing it in the buds. The leafs are conductors, while the buds are sinks.

I agree with Pacman.
