Filter placment in tent question - CFM

I notice a lot of people hang their filter and fan to one side of the tent vs. centered above the light. After setting up my 5x5 I realized that with the 8" filter I've lost almost 2 feet in height.

My question is if I were to hang the ventilation off to one side then ~25-50% of the filter becomes blocked by the side wall. Does this drop the CFM rating of the filter 25-50%?

I have my filter on the ground vertical, fan on top vertical, and hose going up into tent sucking out. I don't hang all that weight. I don't see the point in putting more weight on the tent and taking up space.

The filters round, the corners square, it shouldn't be touching but it's not impeding the airflow.

The reason why its to one side it's to create air circulation. Example, goes out top left, new air comes in bottom right.

Plus traditional lighting can be hung next to or close to the filter so your not losing all that space anyway.

You wouldn't have a light touching your tent roof.

I do agree with this. Air come in low on the left, leaves high on the right

I have my filter up in one of the corners of the tent. Much of it is against the side of the tent so I'm not getting the most efficient airflow through it. But in a 4x4 like mine or a 5x5 like yours if you have at least a 400 cfm 6" fan you're fine. But definitely move your fan from above the light. You're just losing space for nor reason. I'm running a 600 watt HPS and I have the fan turned down to about 1/3rd and it's fine even with one side against the tent.
