seen more bugs in roots than I ever saw in OF, Of is my biggest seller. a lot of cup winners grow in OF
Reps at Fox Farms confirm that in the PNW there are bug problems in their OF. Just food for thought. I don't run a hydro store, I'm just a medical patient.

I just got done with my first grow in OF. I switched for my next set of plants and I don't like it. I had the infamous bug issues (PNW, here). Not too mention the same reason that Subcool doesn't like it, plant tip burn. I switched to Roots Organic 707. It's just cheaper, and buy some GH nutes. I believe that soil growers should learn how to fail before they succeed. I did numerous times and by the time I finished my first grow, I learned more than the guy who 'taught' me. Point being, get ready to fail whether you want to or not. Realistically, you'll f*ck up your plants with that stuff, but it's a good lesson(s) for you. You'll overwater, unevenly water, add too much ph up/down and crisp it, that's okay, I vegged for over two months on my plants and it was because it took me that long to learn from my problems. In the process I learned FIMing, Supercropping, LST, SOG/SCROG. I now (third set of plants) have done most growers have and haven't lost one yet and I literally brought them to hell and back again. My girls are good and I'll reap over 5 oz's on one of my plants. I recommend separate planters too, more control.
You can grow in anything, the weirdest medium I've used so far was a ultrasonic humidifier in the shape of an elephant. Pretty rad actually. The plant stuck out of it's nose/trunk. My advice is save your money and use cheaper soil. Happy Frog is way better I hear. I actually stick to roots organic 707 mixed with 30% pearlite and ancient forest (20%) for water retention and optimal drainage (kind of contradicting I know, but I water once every three or so days giving it no nutes during the veg phase, and I usually root bind my plants to the planter, doing so during the flowering phase allows constant free play, add whatever you want. I veg two months and never had any nutrient problems and I usually LST the hell out of the plants, they never make it to the next step until they reach 12/12. WAY EASIER for a beginner, like us!
FYI: Organics should be cheaper than anything, if you are paying a noticeable amount of money, you are doing it wrong. Play around with stuff, you'll never learn anything unless you kick the crap out of them while experimenting early. Take'em to the brink and back and you'll know it's parameter's and can stay within them for the duration of their long and not so healthy life. You'll get better. My advice is learn the fundamentals and you won't hermie your plants. I haven't yet, and I SUCK!!!

I actually switched from FFOF to Roots Organics because of the bugs. Hey, it happens on a case by case I guess. To the person who started the thread, It's not a bad soil, you can occasionally find bugs in it, but that is true with all soil/companies as stated above. I can grow some great cannabis using fox farms soil, I have.

Your good....I like to mix 2 to 1 FFOF-LIght warrior. Getting good results with that. And I put a clone in straight FFOF and it was fine.

been using ffof for awhile now (my mentor uses it i guess thats why i do) anyways I mixx 50/50 used flushed and dried ffof and new add guano lime and earth worm castings and so far really good results no bugs unless the occasional mite prob but not thonkin thats from the soil. Here in the Detroit area seems everyone has em. Havnt had them wreak Havok on a crop yet hot shots and and an occasional spot treatment with EcoSmart organic inxecticide .

FFOF makes for a better ingredient for a soil mix, than it does as a stand-alone soil. Any soil can come with fungus gnats, it just depends on where you are getting it from, shipping, etc.
The best way to solve this problem is to buy predatory nematodes in advance. You can find them online for <$20, they come in suspended animation and last for months. Even if your soil doesn't come contaminated, if you grow in soil long enough, you will get some fungus gnats. Either way, you can be covered for a minimal investment.

The reason for mixing the 2 together is because of the price. 22 bucks for a bag of OF and 19 bucks for a bag of HF. OF comes in 1.5 cu.ft. bag and HF comes in 2.0 cu. ft.... For me, It,s simply about saving money.... There both good products... Ill let you know how it works out as this is my first time mixing the 2...So far, so good...... There are other,s on here who do the same....
