Felony marijuana bust ended well for a mayor.

Marijuana use, growing etc. is not an actual crime. Mala in se. An actual crime involves a victim.

Marijuana growing and use etc. being a statutory crime because they say so, malum prohibitum (a "crime" because we say so) is a scam and evidence that people aren't free.

I'm shocked, shocked to find that a Mayor hired a good lawyer and got a light sentence.

This guy (below) needs to know that lawyer's name. But really, corruption, favoring the powerful over the weak, and absence of rule of law are parts of the Republican platform. Iowa is controlled by Republicans. People in Iowa must love their corrupt officials. Just like Trump, the one in the following story was openly stealing public funds for years but nobody cared. Makes sense. Iowa voters voted for Republicans. If you sleep with dogs, you'll get fleas.

Leaders of Iowa Town Jailed in Long-Running Corruption Case
Years of corruption and mismanagement allegedly preceded the arrests of a northwest Iowa town’s mayor, police chief and three current and former clerks who are charged with theft and fraud.

This photo provided by Emmet County Sheriffs Office shows Greg Buum. The Emmett County Sheriff’s Office announced Friday, Feb. 12, 2021, in a news release posted on Facebook that the Iowa Attorney General’s Office filed the charges against Armstrong Mayor Greg Buum, police chief Craig Merrill, city clerk Tracie Lang and former city clerk Connie Thackery on Thursday. The sheriff’s office said the investigation uncovered “misappropriation of city funds, the presentation of fraudulent public records, deploying a TASER against a civilian in exchange for cash, and falsification of ledgers to conceal embezzlement.” (Emmet County Sheriffs Office via AP)

The arrests stunned the community of 900 people, which is located near Iowa’s border with Minnesota and about 40 miles from the popular Okoboji vacation area in the state’s northwestern corner.
Defense lawyers said they were trying to learn what prompted authorities to act against the officials now, years after some of the alleged misconduct became public in a September 2017 audit report.

IOWA GETS D+ GRADE IN 2015 STATE INTEGRITY INVESTIGATION

State tried to hide police videos and corporate data

The State Integrity Investigation is a comprehensive assessment of state government accountability and transparency done in partnership with
Global Integrity.

Yet again, right wing authoritarians act as if they were living in Orwell's world.
