Feeling discouraged about outdoor growing in San Diego

So, I've had several successful indoor harvests now but have yet to make it through an outdoor harvest without being slayed by bud rot.

Last year it was caterpillers, this year it was caterpillers AND grasshoppers. (I wasn't expecting the caterpillers to appear this soon - last year they waited til Sept... & the whole grasshopper thing was new to me).

I basically lost my whole crop today & at this point I'm feeling really puzzled. I'm in North County, in San Diego, which is supposed to be the greatest growing climate in the world & I can't seem to get through a harvest without being decimated by some pest or another. How on earth do people grow weed in some rainy wet area like Humboldt county, for goddsake? Cannabis feels SO vulnerable to any number of attacks.

I'm kinda feeling like the amount of time & energy & money invested in outdoor growing is just setting myself up for massive disappointment, since every time I get a month or so into flowering I get to watch everything turn brown & grey (usually practically overnight) & then I get the joy of destroying my whole crop. Super fun.:)

Aside from spraying with BT nonstop, is there anything I'm missing? How on earth are y'all dealing with pests? Or am I just in a particularly buggy area? (Escondido). Feeling discouraged. Any help appreciated.

I'm up the hill from you. Spinosad twice a week through flowering will stop the catipillars in their tracks. You can grow giant plants where you live with just a little maintenance.

I'm down the hill from you. :bigjoint:

I spray with BT every 2 weeks, and in the other weeks I spray with Neem Oil. Every grower has problems, an experienced grower keeps on top of them. You must inspect regularly. I still find some worm damage--which I remove--and some aphids or mites. The spraying just keeps them to minimal numbers.

One year I had some beautiful plants that were budding nicely. Then in October we had 3 nights of heavy dew. The buds rotted fast, and I tossed the plants.

I wish that I had all of the bud that I've tossed due to pests or fungus! I'd be rich.

thanks guys. yeah, it's been crazy humid the last week or so - I'm thinking that had something to do with it. I'm definitely looking into mold-resistant strains next time. this time around it was Nirvana's ak48, which i've had great yields from indoors, but thinking it might not be hardy enough for outdoor here. I'll definitely look into Spinosad too.

argh, tossing huge colas is seriously one of the most depressing things ever.
