Fans and ventilation

I plan on starting a rubbermaid growbox for some seeds that I have started germinating. My question is if i have a small fan inside of it do i need to put fans in the top of the rubbermaid? or do i just need to have an inlet and and outlet hole?

You will need to have a exhaust fan for sure. you will need the most powerful fan you can get for the exhaust fan. The idea is you want to suck the air out of the chamber. More experienced members can fill you in on the details of how much actual air movement you need, But count on at least three fans. One intake fan, one exhaust fan and a walmart fan as well.

It depends on what you have to work with. If you have access to 120 mm computer fans, use them inside your cabinet, aluminum tape is handy to seal them up and hold them in place. keep the intake fan low at plant level.

What kind of light do you have?

CFL's at higher wattage still throw off heat which in an enclosed space must be handled rather quickly. I run three 105 watt cfl's and its quite hot without any fans.

hope something helps.

Hi! I think this is the place to put this post--it's my first post so I'm not sure how to get the quickest response, but we'll see.
SO--I am growing in a small bedroom under a 1000w HPS and 400w MH bulbs. At first I only had the 400w MH and the temperature in there was in a pretty good range. Now that I have added the 1000w, the room is very hot. I don't really have much in the way of ventilation set up--I pretty much just open the window during the day and let some fresh, cooler air in. I'm worried about temperature swings and also adequate fresh air, etc.
Here is my idea: I am thinking of using some 6" ducting to run from the 1000w hood with a fan sucking air out, and trying to direct it in to a dormant heating vent at the bottom of the wall. Has anyone tried this? I am hesitant to direct the air outside right now, and this would be relatively temporary. We are keeping the door to the room open right now and the lights make my house look a bit like a spaceship. I am growing legally, but my husband's farmer parents are going to be here in a couple of weeks and would probably be none too pleased with my choice of crops.
There are two vents in this room: both are at the bottom of the wall, one on either side. I was also considering sucking air in from the other vent for a source of "fresh" (-er) air.
As I said, this would be temporary, so my main question: are there any reasons you know of NOT to do this?
Any advice or ideas would be greatly appreciated!
