Fan leaves block light

Is it healthy during the flowering period to prune some of the fan leaves from the top for more light on the bottom buds?

---Will this work in the way i intend?
---At what time in the flowering period should i prune?
---Will it hurt my buds max?
---should i just let it be?

I have too much shade going on from the bottom of the plants the cover each other and i cannot spread them any further.
The last harvest i had many undeveloped buds, but great tops because i have 600 watt reflector.

any tip helps my decision.

Thank you!

They aren't blocking light they are collecting light. I leave them unless they are dying. Maybe you could add some side light, even a few 42w cfls makes a difference.

NEVER CHOP YOUR FANS! Only time would be if they are dead.

You need them to supply energy to your plant. Cutting them will stunt the growth and lower your harvest.

The best thing to do is to tuck the large fan leaves under your growing flower tops. This will help them get more light without taking of the fans. Also, When you harvest, just take of the top 30%-50% of the plant and let the rest mature for another week or so.

Again, YOU NEVER WANT TO CHOP YOUR FANS. Its your life blood of your plant.

This has always been the way I see it. Your plant knows exactly how many leaves it needs to collect enough light to complete its growing process. Lots of ppl cut the big fan leaves off to get the light down to the lower growsites, but I don't believe in it. Tuck them out of the way. Like Illegal Smile said, I add a few cfl's around the sides to get the lower buds to fatten up. You can always harvest the fatter, top buds, and let the lower buds go a bit longer so they fill out. That's the way I do it.
