Fan & Filter question

If I'm getting a vortex s line 6" fan (374cfm), would it be best to run a 6"x16" carbon filter(400cfm), or a 8"x20" carbon filter (730cfm)? Its for a 4x2" flower tent.
I think the 6" is the best value, but I have seen some people use bigger filters than fans.

I'm planning to use a variac 3 amp variable voltage controller with this to try to prolong the life of the fan.

I'm stuck trying to decide between the s line or the vtx 600:20160905_013319.png 20160905_013252.png

I always confuse with the feet and inch system, but i will give you my own sizes, filter and fan so you could estimate if its enough or not. My tent is 1x1x1.80(metric system). My fan is s&p td silent 350m3/h, btw id highly recommend these td silent series, its really silent. My carbon filter is 165m3, but i didnt connect it yet cause my plants are still in vegetative. So far its really effective, never had heat or circulation issues, i do passive intake though

I think its best to buy the filter just enough big for your room, not less not more, and a bit more powerful fan than your room needs cause many factors decrease the efficiency of your fan, like filter, angles of the duct and the length of the line etc. For instance as a requirement 108m3/h is enough for my room they say, but my current fan is the ideal one, a smaller one could have been weak for a 400w hps(well i use 400w hps)

I'm leaning toward an 8 inch filter to 8 to 6" duct reducer with the more powerful VTX600 for the cfms. And it will be exhausting hot air from above the 8 cxb3590 at 350w total in a 4x2'.

IMO, I would get the vortex vtx 600. It is very nice. You can also just get a speed controller for 15-20 bucks. However, do you really need that big of a fan for 16sqft?

don't forget that filters are rated in cfm too, you have to run your fan slower than the cfm on your filter or it won't have time to work. i'd get a slightly bigger filter and fan than you actually need and run the fan at 75%
