Fan and odor control

So I'm a beginner grower and on a very big budget since I'm not too serious about smoking. I find the excitement in the actual growing aspect of marijuana but I don't have too much money to splurge on top quality products. I already have a grow tent and my friend is providing me with a LED light setup. I know LED has a bad rep but that's what I'm using now so heat isn't a concern.

so my question is,

Can I use a booster fan as an exhaust? I'm thinkng of making a homemade carbon filter by buying activated carbon and putting it panty hoes or some kind of net and stuffing it infront of a booster fan. I know booster fans are use to help move already moving air but will this still work? My tent size is only about 70" x 48" x 20"

Done the activated carbon (from Petco), used a 45 CFM computer fan and nothing...I have had better luck growing certain weed that has a incense smell and hiding it with some of the Poutporri crap...at least I think that is how it is spelled..you have a small candle under a pile of dead flowers soaking in oil. Worked for vegitation not so much for flowering.

I don't think a booster will fan will have enough power to pull through an activated carbon filter. Not sure how you plan on doing a DIY one, but if you read most of the activated carbon filters require a significant amount of CFM to function. If the smell will be an issue I suggest that you think about putting some more time or $ into solving the issue with something commercial.
