hi evryone im kinda new to this
anyway, i got a light from a local headstore witch gaurantees 2100 lumens and is apparently the equivelant to a 250W light
it shows a graph of its light frequencys and clearly has all the nessacary parts of the spectrum, however it is only 24W witch is the thing that bothers me (the whole reason for this is to prevent a dramatic increase in the electricity bill and hence being caught) , it dosent produce alot of heat either, infact i can hold the bulb quite comfortably after it has been running for a while
also i dont know what kind of bulb it is, there is no details on its core ( i suspect flourecent)
does anyone know if this "energy saver" will be suitable for growing blue cheese??
they are only germinating yet so there is still time to buy a HPS or MH

m8 it sounds like a cfl lightbulb that you have me personally im afraid id recommend a bigger light but it depends how many plants you are growing.
if its just 1 id still say get a bigger light or get more of them.
with regards to your electricty that was a thing i used to be worried about but a 400 hps doesnt cost much to run really but the first thing i done was replace all my household bulbs with energy savers it would amaze you i was running about 700 watts nd changed it to 100 odd watts

More light=More yield you cant top that. even wit ur 23 watter ull get some bud. But nothin dense. remember HPS=heat=Gotta buy a fan too(could be costly).

easiest way to look at it is this. the sun gives out 10,000 lumens per sq/ft. you want to be 'aiming for that'. if you get over 5k lumens per plant you are in the clear i would say. if you are gunna use cfl's 3-6 per plant, and have some really good reflective material set up.

the density/yield debate rages on, but if you look at my bagseed journal, fluoros are clearly capable of producing dense buds (my yield didn't hold up, but i also started flower at like 10"). during a discussion i had with someone else on this topic, they had a way of putting it that i really liked, it went something like 'sometimes i think a good gardener can grow with a flashlight'. this isn't literally true obviously, but in a way hes right. in the hands of a good gardener, lights and soil and nutes only do so much. ive seen plenty of experienced people pull plenty of weight in dense nugs out of cfl grows. i've also seen some incredibly poor grows out of an HPS. remember, in a grow, it is never just one deciding factor like light or nutes that just make 'dank budz' for you. its a culmination of everything, lights, time, soil, nutes, air, temp, rh, pH (in some cases), etc.

-edit- oh, and my avatar is the big girl from the bagseed i was talking about. nothing fluffy or small about her if you ask me =D

i fount out the name of it, its a sunblaster T5 2ft flouecent 24W
4 plants for harvest and 1 for mom
as far as the other variables go (Ph, temp and so on....) they are at the optimum and a fan will easily fit into the attic

and the only thing that makes me not want a soudim light is the bill at the end of the month, since i use energy savers anyway it will be a huge increase in my bill.
