End the drug war to stop the drug catrels

I was watching the evening news on NBC when a story about the War on drugs came on. It was about how the Mexican drug cartels are using children to smuggle drugs across the border. The border patrol arrested a 12 year old boy after he was caught driving a truck with nearly half a ton of marijuana in it. While this is bad, what makes it worse is that they are recruiting American children to do their dirty work now. I know that ending the drug war will not make these drug cartels go away, but it would help to prevent this kind of thing from happening.
