Hi Nibby :)

Welcome To RiU :)

I guess it depends where you live , Here in the UK , I chose to have a PAYG and just top it up every 2 weeks , Im using a 600w 18 /6 and extraction fan running 24/7 ( at diffrent rates of speed ) and so far i have only had to add an extra £10 a week .

But i am also using a lot of other electrical stuff .... air pump for oxygenating water ... Plugin mini ionizer .... O-fan ( im sure they take up more power than most stuff alone )

So with all the stuff running ...only an extra £10 a week :)

Hope that helps :)

Electricity usage is measure in kilowatt hours. So, 700w would be .7 kw hours x 12hours (or however long you are running it). Where I live, electricity is about 10 cents a kilowatt hour, so at 12/12, 700w would use about 85 cents a day running 12/12. .7 kw x 12hrs x 10 cents a kw hour.

1000w bulb would use about 10 cents an hour.

sonar, 1000w is 1 kw which would cost you each hour exactly what your $ per kw hour rate is on your electric bill.

Yeah I know, which on average is around 10 cents a kw hour.

I'm an electrician and I've noticed over the years that a lot of folks aren't sure how energy is measured and thought I would explain it a little bit.

by the way there is a pretty descriptive guide of your electricity usageon your electricty bill, the thing yuo have to realize is that if you go over a certrain amount of power usage you are going to go into a higher bracket and the cost per killowatt / hour is going to increase.

1 1000w light wouldnt do that though. Your average pc now a days carries a 600w power supply, or space heater 1200 watts. So its not as crazy as it is just really bright light
