dumb question?

Is a 50W HPS light better than a 65W Florex?... I know they both suck... but... still... I'm broke...

Isn't a 50w HPS only 3000-4000 lumens? It would only do one or two plants in a cabinet. Or I suppose you could use it as a supplement natural sunlight if you wanted four plants. I doubt you could bud with a florex though... spectrums and all that.

well right now I'm only growing 1 plant... and I'm using 4 42W CFL's and 3 32W... And Iread in high times that a 65W florex would work for up to 4 plants... so I figured that with the CFL's and the HPS I would be good for growing 3 or 4 plants... But the 65W florex is wayyyy brighter than the 50W HPS... but the florex looks blue and the HPS red... So yea I get what your saying about the spectems... But the 50 wHPS seems to be doing absolutly nothing... I was thinking I'd be better off returning it and getting another florex... But I wanted to know what was better...

also the florex box says its simaler to sunlight and emits almost 7,000 lumens... and the HPS only emits 4,050lumens... dosnt each plant require 4,000 lumens???

Yes its a CFL floodlight mounted in a small reflector. It says alot on the box but whats important is that it actually puts out 4550 usable (photopic) lumens. Im holding the box from 1 of the 2 i recently bought. This light is best suited for seedlings/vegging/clones and mothers due to its blue spectrum. The HPS is in the red spectrum and is better for flowering. Tonight i finished vegging 5 plants in a room 2x4x8 w/ the 65W Flourex and (2) 42w CFL spiral bulbs in a lamp w/ a y-splitter. I can tell you as ABSOLUTE FACT that the single flourex runs way cooler than the 2 CFL spirals but puts out about 1000 lumens less. The good news is you dont need those extra lumens now. Look on Ebay for the Flourex its worth every penny. I paid about $50 for the 2 of them shipped.
P.S. i bought the ones that need hard wiring but its so simple to wire it to plug into the wall. They also sell them on Ebay already wired to plug in but its extra. The lamp replacement chord i bought at walmart only cost a couple dollars so see which is cheaper.

why dont I need that extra 1,000??? I have a florex... is that good? better or worse than CFL floodligh?

Your saying 2 42 W CFLs are better than the florex floodlight????

the plants in a 3x3 area just dont need that many lumens at that stage of growth. The Fluorex IS a CFL Floodlight. Im saying use the 65W Fluorex for vegging. It is a blue spectrum bulb. Blue is good for growing roots. The 65W Fluorex+ about 6 red spectrum CFL spiral bulbs for flowering. The red spectrum is good for flowering.

what? right now I have CFL's and 1 65w florex floodlight and 1 50HPS light
But the florex cost like 45 bucks and the HPS cost 30... but the florex is way brighter... but CFL's are cheeper... I'm thinking of just returning everything and ordering a decent wattage HPS

I found a site that sells 150W HPS for 100 and that like 5 bucks more than I payed... and they sell 250W for 120... and higher Wattages for not much more...

O.K. I mace up my mind... I'm going to take the lights down tomoro... and return them... and get the 250 W HPS... its 33,000 lumens... So... I'm buying it... its only 20 bucks more than I payed for the 50W HPS and 65W Florex ... and a hell of a lot better...

250w would be ideal considering how low your ceiling is, if you have good ventilation I would splurge for a 400w. You get used ones to start out on all over the damn place, check online classified ads. It hurts at the start, but lets face it if you pull this off you're gonna have more than you need. Perhaps you could trade it for goods and/or services... no, wait trade it for money.

Question remains:
Are you flowering or vegging now?

Unless you are using one full spectrum light or are using a strain like lowryder that skips vegetation you need different types of lights for vegging/flowering.

3x3x5? well get your square footage 3x3 = 9 sq ft

2000 lumens per square foot is needed for vegging @ 6500 kelvin color temperature = 2000x9=18000 lumens ideally

5000+ lumens per sq ft is recommended for flowering @ 2700k
(I have heard 7000-10000 lumens psf is optimal) = 5000x9 = 45000+ lumens ideally.

How cheap are you wanting to go? Vegging and Flowering in same area?

wow didn't even see the 400 W HPS... My ventilation isn't that great... just 2 PC fans... the biggest ones I could find... one intake outake... and a fan blowing on my plant...
I'm planing on only flowering in there... maybe veging alittle bit... but I have a seperate space for that... so if my space is 5x5x3 lets say... that means its 75 square feet?????? so if a 350 watt is 33,000 lumens that means... hold on... this is going to take awhile...
