Ductwork + DIY carbon scrubber w/ PICS

Hey I am in the process of growing w/ a dro setup and a custom-made box. I don't know much about ducting and how it works, I was hoping someone could give me some advice on this. I have pictures below of my box (just so you can get an idea) and of the ductwork in my basement near the box. I need to eliminate the odor w/ a DIY carbon scrubber and (I think) duct it out of my house. If I don't have to duct it all the way out of my house could I just set up some duct to another room or something to eliminate odor?

The 2nd picture is of my water heater, it blows the air and carbon dioxide? out of the house and comes out on the side of my house. This is the only pre-established ducting that really goes out of my house.

I am going to make a DIY carbon scrubber, probably this one - https://www.rollitup.org/do-yourself/101248-best-diy-ez-walmart-carbon.html . I want to connect it to that white pipe you see in the pictures and have it filter out of the house, if this is possible. If anyone has any comments or advice on this type of thing it would be much appreciated as I am a bit lost on this whole ducting thing!

P.S. - Would I even need to duct it? If you follow that link it looks as though he just has it connected to his exhaust fan. I do have a cheap vent fan on the top of my box, I wonder if I just connect it to that if that would be adequate to eliminate the odor?

Thanks for bearin w/ the rambling post lol, I am just a bit confused I am no expert on this as it's my first grow and do not really know how these carbon scrubbers work either. Cheers!
