Drying and Curing for people with Michigan Basements

We are really blessed in michigan with our cold basement floors when it comes to drying our buds we can take advantage of this situation and get a nice sloooowww dry.

Here is how I dry if your looking for ideas:

First I have something like these stackable units, lightproof these bad boys with paint: or tape and make sure fresh air can get in and out either by cracking the drawer or making a hole:

Now get 3 cooking racks per drawer:

Lay your buds/braches on this rack - control humidity in the room so it stays below 65, control temp so it stays above 45F and below 65F (Easy for us michiganders)...The point is the cold basement floor transfers cold right thru the metal racks so the drying unit is pretty cold to the touch. It takes me about 2 weeks to dry like this before starting the cure.

When buds are so dry the consistency is like Styrofoam put in jars and begin cure - (you can roll a joint and it will burn good) - it should already be a smooth smoke at this point and it will already taste as if it is cured but with lower potency and less flavor.

Overall its just easier to put one of these things in your flowering room if that is an option in your scenario, since humidity/smell/temp are already controlled - it also makes it easy to harvest buds you can just throw it right on the rack without leaving your grow room.

Drfever if you simply dried for longer your bud is gunna taste better and be smoother smoke, if you have the option I suggest do your same method but repeat it for two weeks or more you will be surprised. If your room was colder you could let them go on the screens longer probably.

I usually hang my buds for 2 or 3 days. After that i put them into big paper bags for a few more days, then into a jar for the cure. Seems to work well. My basement always stays about 65 deg and 50% humidity.

I did the $40 dollar bud dryer (search it on RIU).. and it takes 4 days then into jars in my basement. Works great and always provides great results.

I used a 27 Gallon tuff bucket and some adjustable window screens from home depot for 3 racks per tub.. and 4" inline fans.. vented into my flower room to be scrubbed and exhausted outside.
