Does this even make sense?

I'll let you all know the situation:
I live in a small bachelor suite, 360 square feet. I've got one closet that is 21" deep, 8 feet tall and 2 and a half feet wide. I've got another closet that is larger, probably about 5 feet wide, 2 and a half feet deep and 8 feet tall. I currently use that for my clothes and other junk that I cram in there, so I don't want to have to use that closet but it seems like the best choice.
Anyways,
I want to get a 400w HPS and another 400w MH for later on in the grow, if I used something of that intensity in the small closet to grow one plant, would that be too hot? Secondly, would it even be worth it? I'm looking at over $150 USD for a ballast, a light, and shipping to Canada. That's about $175ish CAD. That, and the electricity to run that for a whole grow costs approximately what? Another hundred or so? Plus you gotta make it light and airtight, gotta ventilate it and all that. I've got one little seed that sprouted, it's about 1cm tall and 5 days old, growing under a 33w fluoro.
I really wanna see this guy through to the end and hope it turns out great, and I know if I grow it fully it'll be the best bud I've ever smoked, but how much would I be looking at getting?
I'd have to harvest by May, as my lease is up May 19 and the landlord will probably wanna show the place or something before then. I've read people are getting about an ounce a plant indoors. Should I just give up on this guy and wait until I get a new place? Or should I keep going with it and see where it takes me?
Seems like it might be more trouble than its worth in the place I'm living at, but I really don't want it to die! haha

well for 1 thing, go with the HPS and stay away from the MH. MH ballasts/bulbs arent for weed growing, they're for mothering/baby producing; they'll make your buds airey.. Hordilux is the best kind of HPS bulb to get. Secondly, ordering equipment from the US if you live in Canada is foolish.. go to craigslist.com, you will find great prices on used equipment in your area. Now, back to the topic at hand... I know a few ppl that grow a small amount of plants in closets and small areas, and if you have the right temperature control then you can have relatively good success. The strain of weed you get will greatly depend on the yield you get. For example, Jamaican will get you a WAY greater yield then say Kush, but you wont get as much $ per pound. But I assume you're growing for personal consumption and not for $, so I suggest going with a good smokable strain. And if the landlord timetable is important, then get a quick 6 week strain and you'll be fine! Hope that helps, goodluck.

Well, once I move out I hope to step up production so I can make all sorts of marijuana concotions and see how many things I can incorporate it into in my daily life. Until then, I wanna get a grip on it with this one baby here. With a 400w in that small closet, will I have heat issues? Also, I'm renting so I can't be cutting holes all over the place for venting, I'd have to... I dunno how I'd work that one out.

Based on your description, I would say to go for it!
I would use the larger closet, because heat buildup will be easier to control...
If you follow some basic guidelines you will be well on your way to enjoying the greatest hobby in the known universe.

Three big reasons for growing your own:

1) Virtual eternal supply of Buds.

2) You get to enjoy some of the finest cannabis the world has to offer.

3) Its fun!

And just so you dont totally miss out, you should start a few more seeds. Just enough so that that your odds of being able to actually get a fem. and watch the buds grow, dry, cure, and smoke are greatly increased. Plus when you look into your closet and see your ONE plant ALL ALONE, think of how lonely she is. Ehhh, whats a few more?:hump: :hump:

haha I wish I could have more than one plant... I really don't have the space in my bachelor suite for it. I've got one long fluoro on this seedling and the seed husk hasn't even fallen off yet, but its a few centimeters tall. The closest I've ever come to growing was Highgrow, lol

so I went out to the bush for the NIGHT, came back after being gone for 30 hours and the thing shrivled up and died
the husk just fell off too!! the leaves were about to separate but it doesn't look like they moved at all... must have been the problem, not enough green for the light... or not enough light
it doesn't look/feel like it shrivled up because of the heat from the light, the soil is still damp and the plant itself is still rather supple, but it's about a quarter the volume that it was.

anyone have any ideas what might've happened?
