Does extracts give the most consistent effect with edibles?

I have tried cannabis infused food in the past. The effect varied from short duration with subtle effect to long lasting with strong and almost paralyzing high. I abandoned the idea, until recently when I read the chloroform extraction thread (https://www.rollitup.org/t/chloroform-extraction-first-attempt.935856/page-2) were Atrumblood describes similar experiences on edibles. The discussion suggests that extracts in combination with proper decarboxylation might be the way to go for consistent results.

I will give edibles another try this time with extracts. Should I add coconut oil to the extract and heat it for 30 minutes at 122C/252F for optimal results? I read an article on skunkpharm (https://skunkpharmresearch.com/decarboxylation/) the process seems quite easy and is well explained. Is there anything else I can do to produce edibles with consistent effect in every single dose?

Key to edibles is consistent dosing. Concentrates provide some of that consistency vs. flower imo. That said, the quality, potency, and effects of the starting material (flower, trim, or popcorn) can vary but if you get the dosage and process down it's pretty consistent.

I only use sift/kief for edibles and primarily coconut oil capsules. I take 80mg daily which would be a high dosage for newbies to edibles. I recommend starting with 40-50mg testers and taking one or two at a time to find the right dosage.

You will never get the exact same effect with every dose unless the starting material is the same and you get a consistent process down to make them edibles. If you're running multiple strains and keep the sift separated by strain you can eventually produce specific caps/doses for specific ailments,

Attaching the recipe I use. Depending on your oven (they can vary significantly) you may need to adjust temps but these work well once you fine tune to your starting materials and get the oven temps right.

Thank you GroErr for explaining and for your recipe, much appreciated! :)

Looking forward to make capsules. I will also try to a make gummy bears and I will start with the dose you suggest. It would be great if the quality is good enough to be used as a complementary medicine.

No problem, I share it here often, a lot of people making them. You can adjust the potency by tweaking it, add 5 minutes to each baking time and they typically turn out a bit heavier. They're my only meds, no Pharma meds, use them for pretty well anything from muscle pain to migraines. I've been in remission from a type of lymphoma that they tell me can't be cured.. for 7 years - lol
