does diatomaceous earth works i need a reply before i make purchase

i just need a hint on how to use diatomaceous earth to get rid of bugs on my sour diesel plant that is entering her 5th week into flowering.. does it really work?

Yes it will work but only on bugs in your soil. It will not kill bugs that are on your leaves.

need help!!

If there spider-mites you need a knock down killer. To use the diatomaceous earth just put a layer on top of the soil, diatomaceous earth is very sharp edges that cut the bugs up when they crawl across them. If they are fungus gnats use yellow sticky strips. Lets hope it's not spider mites they are very hard to get rid of.

Spider mites leave little dot's on the leaves, you need a magnifier glass to see them sometimes, look under the leaf's to see if you got them. Shoot me a pm if you got spider mites

i dont have spidermite i have these little flys that is all but tell me because im ve4ry limited on where i can go do you know if i could use any from walmart tio get rid of these insect that are harming my baby.

If it is fungus gnats, keep the soil dryer.. Also, a thick layer of sand on top of the dirt can stop them.. Maybe 1-3 inches.

the other thing you can do is get a vinegar bottle like you see in the dinners the glass bottle with the chrome top fill 1/4 with vinegar and set as close to the plant as you can. They will fly into it and drown, you need a narrow top!

Now to prevent it in the future don't water so much and put a small fan so that it gently blows over the top of the pot. This will help dry out the top of the dirt where they like to live due to the moisture.

I heard dimate -wotever it is called- earth is hard to apply to wet soil and needs reapplying after watering. Those bugs sound like they are laying their eggs/larvae directly in the moist wet soil and not the leaves. A nicotinamide based bug killer stick that you press couple inches down in the earth should also kill them outright, stuff that the organic tomato indutry uses to kill bugs-nicotinamide. Good luck

Oh yer i am so stupid, just cover the pots to break the life cycle, use paper plates so the flies cannot get to the soil, place strips of tin foil so that they dangle down on branches to confuse them, this moves them on as well as they hate tin foil and makes um unhappy and cinfused so they go somwhere else. Paper plates and tinfoil is a lot more organic and better than any bug spray or killer and you could sprinkle dimateous earth on top of the paper plates for added protection. As for the spider mites, good luck with them sods!lol

Yeah I've had this problem and I put an inch or so of play pit type sand on the top of the soil and a week or 2 later theres no flies. Works best when the sand is dry so maybe water every other day. I couldnt afford dimiteous earth lol. Wish I'd done it sooner.
