Does Anyone Just Use Peat Moss to Grow In?

I'm thinking about growing in Peat Moss without adding EWC or Compost. Is anyone growing in this type of medium and if so, how is it different from growing in a soil medium?

Remember this - Peat moss has anti-microbial properties. This is why it's been used to dress wounds since Christ was a corporal. If you grow organic, I would suggest a lesser amount.

It might be doable, most people add aeration though. I would keep them in smaller pots so they dry out quicker and don't stay water logged for long.

I was hoping someone that has grown in Peat Moss would answer.

Would this be considered soilless and is a different PH range required for this type of substrate?

Promix hp,feed with synthetic nutes. The info you seek will be in drain to waste section. If your plan is too feed with bottles.

I don’t understand, you want to grow in just peat moss with no EWC or compost, what organic amendments are you going to use then?

Others here will just use straight promix HP and dry fertilizer ,about as simple as it gets.Worm castings and compost will balance the ph.If you go without them then pending on tap water ph may need a little adjusting.

The compost is the whole key to organics. Without it all the benefits remained locked.
If you want To go straight promix or some peat based medium just get some good salts to liquid feed. St least that food is chelated and plant available.
organic amendments take biology to lots of organic chemistry to make those elements into plant available nutrients. That biology comes from your castings IMO

Ok, perlite adds aeration which we told you above to do, and the rest are no different than ewc or compost. I think you need to do more research and try again, I don’t think you even know what you want to do.
I sent my compost off for analysis and got extremely high Potassium (ppm 747) while the recommended range is 38-80ppm. Also, Iron and magnesium are too high. I'm seeing similar issue with EWC where some nutrients are too high depending on where it comes from. However, the nutrients in Peat Moss are not too high and I can add whatever dry amendments I need without having possible toxicity issues. Therefore, I wondered if it was feasible to do an organic grow in Peat (just add water) without compost or EWC.

If it is necessary to blend some EWC (organic material) with the Peat to have an organic grow, would incorporating 20% organic material into the Peat be sufficient? I cannot use the compost from my nursery since it is too high in nutes.

Yes add 15-20%,see how it goes. You can always add as a top dress. You cant take it away.If you have multiple plants try a few combinations.I know clones do just fine in plain promix HP but need food after 2 weeks.

In the end, you grow plants in your mix and see how they do. Concerns about soil tests arent necessarily valid in organic...runoff if you have any can measure 3000 or 4000ppm. The plant isn't absorbing all that in organic.

You grow some plants and will easily see what is off as the run goes along. You amend that soil with the right amendments to better balance the soil.

Grow again. Repeat. 2 or 3 grows the mix is right on and it can be a water only experience.

A few guys have been using or recommending 40% Peat 40% Aeration and 20% Compost for a lighter mix, so you should be good.

I can't remember anyone's name off the top of my head to give them credit...
