Do you need to germinate before planting seed?

I was just thinking about filling up a party cup (after much thought and suggestions) of Fox farm ocean forest and putting the seed down into the soil maybe a fingernail depth and then putting it under my desk CFL light to begin the proccess before i move it into my full fledged growbox

is that cool or should it have its moments of light and dark as well.

germinating isnt a must, but more of a helpful step.
it ensures you are not planting a dud seed and sitting around for a week staring at a cup of dirt... lol
but if you want, you can go through with your plan. a dark period is helpful, and encourages more root growth and vigour, but 24/0 lights will deffinatly work.
good luck!

lol i see your point, i'll go ahead and move forward with my plan and just pop it under my CFL desk lamp. So i can watch the cap indirectly and directly anytime i'm doing work. After about a week if i don't see anything pop i'll dig up the seed to see if its dead. obviously this is a longer process but for my first grow i'll be patient.

I have a britta filter on my tap can i just use the britta filter to filter out the impurities of tap water and use that water to water the seedling?

got 2 plants germed one and just planted one...the one i germed is doing way better then the planted one but i highly doubt that has anything to do with not germing it lol.

good mindset to have, patience is the hardest aspect of growing lol
but yea that should work good for you man
most tap water is okay to use without a filter, but if you have access to it, use it! lol
