Do you need certain carbon filters to go with certain fans

I am after buying a 200mm setup but they all seem to expensive. I was wondering if i could buy the intake/outake, carbon filter, ducting,controller septerately would they work together? Do i need a certain scrubber for a certain fan?

i use any in line fan with any filter , i have 2 brands of fans. fan/filters are universal just make sure the flange in the same size as your fan , i.e 6 inch flange for 6 inch fan .

If they are the same size, brand does not matter
