Do HID lights have a break in period?

I'm just talking about like a smell when you first start them up? I checked everything in my growroom, and nothing is too warm, not even the actual wiring, but this smell has me worried. Also, I bought this light with 2 bulbs, one HPS, and one MH, I assumed the MH was the smaller one with the metallic coating inside the base, but the light I'm running is awfully blue.

no, the hps is the smaller skinnier bulb and the mh is the big fat one... i don't usually experience any kind of odor when firing up a new bulb though....

I thought I had it backwards, I'll switch them out tomorrow during their dark period, the smell went away, I think it was some adhesive on the reflector, cause the smell is gone now, all I can smell is my babies.

i didn't even think of the sticky crap on the reflector causing the smell.. glad you got it all straightened out though..

My almost fire story. Floralux units have a stupid plastic peel inside the reflector that is almost invisible and unmentioned in the damn manual and start up instructions... I smelled a burning smell and noticed the plastic blackening... Close call for me and fail on Floralux's end without mentioning it. Hope everything goes well

All I can smell out there is my plants now, I'm loving this 600, and can't wait till my other one gets here monday.
