diy growbox question

ok so i am about to build my first growbox. done hours of research on this site and i have decided for my small grow i will use the rubbermaid idea. (i actually found a cheaper brand at home depot since im on a budget) i am also gonna build a carbon filter from the car filter idea... looks effective and cheap. my question is if i get a good enough exaust fan to blow into the carbon filter... will i need an intake fan or will a simple hole for ventalation work?

also if i get mylar will that help my light escaping problem or should i also paint my bucket black on outside? needs to be stealthy as possible since i am "destroying" her

If you get enough exhaust running, you don't need an intake fan. Just a regular hole will work.

I've never used mylar myself, but if you coat the inside with it 100%, you shouldn't have any light leaking from the box itself. That's not to say you won't have anything leaking out of the cracks.

I've never been much of a fan of those rubermaid grows though. Why not just use your closet?

i live in an apt complex so i need stealth. also i have to filter the air when she starts
stinkin. i have become paranoid since i started but that makes it more fun haha

i got a rubbermaid upstairs right now with 1 bagseed almost done with veg, 2 white widows, 1 g13 haze and 1 himalaya gold almost done with seedlings all inside. i dont see there being enough space inside to be able to flower more than 1 or 2 plants in there. only 1 if you plan a strong lst. i got my room almost set up. itll be finalized next week. 3x6x8 its just a small corner of the house im closin off. 400 hps, vent fan, and my intake is the air from my a/c!

but i would just advise to use the rubber maid for seedlings and veg. switch to a closet or bathroom or small room or sumthing! its hard to get good dense nugs from the cfl's inside of there.

youd be a lot better off with a cabinet grow box. get a big plastic, metal or wooden one. metal are hard to cut though. check out good will or some thrift store 1st since you need it cheap. you can put a hps or mh in there. you def r gonna spend the most on lights but you can get good lights cheap. you can make it air tight easier, lock it, and smell proof!

if you wanna grow and risk all that in you apt, i would make damn sure i got good nugs out of it. get good lights and enough space.

i find a lot of the D.I.Y. stuff works really well. check out the F.A.Q. on this site and they've got some good D.I.Y. like an ONA little box thats cheap and helps a lot with smell. good luck!

thanks for the advise. right now i am kinda experimenting with the cfls. don't plan on being in this apt next year. should have house and then i will start my real grow operation. do it big then. but i am a starving college student so what i got for now will suffice.

I got a tub for like $3 and change and got my lights in there. only 4 of the cfls quattro style... no money for the fans yet but soon. don't need carbon filters yet.

Oh yea the tub is completely black and no light is escaping. i threw a blanket on it and i can't see how anyone would find it. very stealthy. only problem right now is airflow because the fan i was using was a big stand up oscillating fan.

Also i found the schultz nutes 1-15-10 w/e that means at walgreans for like $2.69 or somethin rediculous like that! i never knew how much awesome useful shit they have a walgreans (my new favorite store)

might just cut my vent hole now and put the fan up to it until i can get my pc fan. right now i am very satisfied and feel comfortable with my stealthyness. I'll update when i make changes.
