DIY Ebb & Flow System Design

Hi Everyone,

I'm getting really fed up of drippers failing into my soil pots and am working on a DIY E&F system to just flood two big trays since I have a 120x240cm flower tent setup.

I'm going to be taking 50x cuttings using root riot cubes and my question is - can I just use these directly as the 'growing medium' in baskets (option A below) or should I place them inside another medium (like clay beads) to support the future roots & retain more water ?

If Option A, how far up the cubes should I make the water go?

Maybe a hybrid is recommend where I place the cubes in more medium in baskets? That's what most images seem to look like.

You will have to have something for the plant to anchor itself to and roots to expand in.
I use peat starter plugs in hydroton and flood to just below the plugs....I'm in an Aircube system for hydro grows.
