disclaimers

are disclaimers necessary? ive been posting on RIU for a while and just the other day i noticed almost evry one has a disclaimer saying something along the lines of "anything i say on this website is made up, i am a liar, insane exct. and any advice i post is googled".

i noticed i may have said some posibly incriminating information about a "past life" of mine. i was wondering if it was recomended to have one of these disclaimers and if people would mind if i stright up stole theirs.

There are no benefits to a disclaimer. It doesn't cover your ass or anything. I think people put them in because they think it's funny.
