Digging a hole

Hello guys I i m gonna dig a hole in the ground for my photoperiod plant, how big should be, if I don t want t to big of a plant and will the roots stay in the good quality soil that I plant them?

I found the best control for plant size is planting later depending on soil fertility you can end up with a huge plant if you plant in May if it’s in a fabric pot or in the earth but if you plant in June the plant won’t be nearly as big

I go about 3x3 with mine.

I've never heard of too big of a plant, lol.
