Device That Tells You When You Need To Water?

Hey I am still new to growing and hoping to simplify things until I get the hang of it. I found something that looks like it would help but hoping for something that might be better than this. Any Suggestions?

Soil moisture meter. They work pretty well especially liked it when I was new to this. Now i just use SIPs and dont worry about it

use a scale.
1-weigh your dry filled planted container, I use my foot or a tip with a hand/water wand

2- add 1/4 of your soil volume in water. A 4 gallon container needs 1 gallon of water added, and a few holes in the bottom
for drainage, if any.

3- Weigh it again.
4- when your weight gets closer to the dry weight see #2

Feed with dry organic fertilizer per directions and tap water, dont over think this. worry instead about controlling humidity, temps, air flow and exchange, proper hid lighting, odors.
