You don't really need the light until after they have germinated. If you are having a problem germinating, try using a different method, such as paper towel germination.

sup buddy , dont use any light untill they pop out .

buy some rockwool cubes, put seed in them ( ungerminated). Then wet cubes , and leave in say your hotwater cupboard , nice warm and dark. then once they have grown out and established a rootbase, plant them in soil, rockwool and all , just put whole thing in and you should be straight.

It can take a few days for em to pop out depending on how deep you put them in. Mine normally take 2-3 days with a fairly long root(if that even makes a difference?) I noticed before transplanting mine from a peat pot to a regular clay pot that I had to water about once every 3 days because it dries out so much, Now I water about once to twice a week, misting every so often.

3 days isn't long enough anyway if you planted the seed directly into soil. I would give them 10 days before you start worrying. Also what kind of seeds are you using? If it's immature bag seed - that might be your problem. Viable seeds are usually light brown with darker brown streaks or spots and nice and plump. The little white seeds you sometimes find in your bought buds just ain't gonna cut it.

Mine took 6 hours once. The root went in at about 2cm. The seed came up with the stem tho. So its different i guess.

Bah I'm sorry - I reread your original post. Sounds like you germinated then put them in soil. Only thing I can think of is maybe you planted too deep? I cover with 1/2 of soil after germination.

As for the dry soil, try putting a layer of clay peebles on the soil surface so the light does not fall directly on the soil, and/or increase the venting in grow room to reduce temps - what are your growing temps now?

buy the germination station...hahaha
dont laugh dude, cuz i bought my germination station and home depot and it worked great. it made the plants sprought in no time and was alot easier then germinating them on paper towls. So i say "YES" to germination stations!:hump:

i cover mine with very little soil. it took about 3 or 4 days to pop out. I think you should go with a smaller light until they get established.
