degrees kelvin for cfls (2700k,6500k,5000k etc.) one quick question

hey im a newb settin up a cab for my own supply and im gonna be using cfls now everywhere ive read say to use a 2700k bulbs for flowering and 6500k bulbs for veg. however i discovered (well rather found out as im sure the growing community is well aware of this fact) that the sun is 5000k does that mean i can just use 5000k cfls so that i dont have to switch them later on (the reason this appeals to e is im low on setup funds ) as always any help is appreciated tks

The suns 5k and a cfl 5k aren't quite the same thing.

If it was, everyone would just use a 5k cfl. Don'tcha think?

IDK though, I don't use CFL's, so YMMV.

I DO use T-5 HO's for veg, but 6500k.

5000k will work but 5500 will work better. 6500k and 2700k are more efficient as they put out less of the green spectrum that the plants ignore.

i use 5500k for vegging, which do work great for veg, but the higher ones - 6400k or so are supposedly even better
when you do 2700k, you're doing a bit 'better' than the sun, more red, better flower
you could stick with 5500k, but supposedly that will give you less bud

ya i geuss that makes for since fine tuning the cfl spectrum would make the light easier to process and it could process all the light instead of just some tks folks help is appreciated

Try using a 3:1 mix to get a fuller spectrum.
For example, my veg table. I use 8, 23W 6500K Daylight and 4, 23W 2700K Soft CFL's(flower would be the other way around), and I couldn't be happier with the results.

thats not a bad idea at all. out of curiosity do you have all those in a cab? and if so how do you have it wired up? i was looking at using 12 small watt bulbs in my cab but couldnt/cant figure out how to safely wire it in.

- Not in a cab, in basement.

I got 4 cheap, vanity mirror lamp fixtures, a couple of pieces of 8in dryer vent, a cord and plug...and voila, CFL grow lamps.


Wiring - Connect all the black wires together, connect all the white wires together, connect all the ground(green or bare) wires together.
The black wires are the "Hot" wires, and the White are the "return". Your plug has a small and a larger blade (polarized), connect the hot lead to the smaller blade of the plug, the white to the larger blade, and the ground to the rounded one.



Clear as mud...Good.
