Decarbing Idea

I was thinking about something recently and wondered if it might work.

When people decarb their weed it is usually done in the oven at two hundred and something degrees for twenty to thirty minutes. Ovens take a while to really heat the inside of anything since air doesn't really transfer heat very well. So what I wondered is would it be possible to "cook" the weed sous-vide style and still have it decarb? If you don't know what sous-vide is, it is basically boiling something that has been vacuum sealed.

Is there any reason why it wouldn't work? Do you need the air space for the process to occur? Would higher temps be required? If higher temps were needed a pressure cooker or an oil bath could be used to get to the necessary temperatures.

Anyways it was just a highdea I had while watching the Cooking Channel.

This is a fantastic topic and brilliant array of questions! It's a shame there haven't been any answers of experience offered to help unravel this mystery.

Excellent theory though, in that sous-vide cooking (according to a quick Google or Wikipedia search) is a method that prepares food evenly, with no scorching, retaining the absolute most of it's natural juices, so decarbing herb this way might be worth investigating.

I've never heard of decarbing before reading an informative & seemingly
excellent recipe that I am preparing right now, as I type this. Then again, I never heard of sous-vide cooking before reading your post here, several minutes ago... But I guess I'm odd in that I search for meaning in things I don't yet understand... Like the word "sous-vide"... Or like decarbing...

I just posted
a question regarding the differences in temperatures between vaping & cooking when extracting THC from bud, read your post here, & thought to comment... With the posting being "bumped", maybe it'll attract some good answers or info.

decarbing is raising the levels of cbn-cbd-thc thru time or heat (google the electron microscope scans to see the increase levels)

basically you take some MMJ grind it up put it in a tinfoil pouch at 225ish for 15 or so mins check it after 12 or so should start to become very crunchy and crumble when squeezed this activates the thc-cbn cbd and increases their levels pretty decently too

(not generally needed if using a crockpot)

decarbing happens with heat and time
so
heat with little time
or time and little heat...

the method of heating be it... sitting in a hot car be it steaming MMJ sauteing roasting etc.. will happen if the temp and time are correct.
