DaSmokester's Loft Design

Hi, I am new to the forum but have several grows under my belt. Usually been growing in closets.

However my new crib has no hiding spots downstairs and I have an unfinished bonus room/loft with a pull down ladder.

It is about 16' x 30' x 7' at the highest point. I am thinking about enclosing a 8' x 16' area for a grow room. Going to separate that area into 2 areas(1 veg, 1 flower).

I have been reading about the trouble of attic grows. So here are a few areas of concern.

  • I need to insulate the grow area heavily.
  • I need to get AC line to the grow room.
  • Where should I exhaust.

:?:Is it feasible to add insulation between the rafters and wall studs and then cover the insulation with Panda Film? I am trying to avoid hauling large pieces of sheetrock up the small loft ladder. :?:

:?:Can I exhaust directly into the unused portion of the loft? I have a window I can vent out of, but a little nervous about heat sig.:?:

I have a 10" AC line that i can run to the insulated portion of the loft(the grow area).

Anyway, just trying to get started. Any info or tips?

I would definitely add insulation to the rafters to stop drafts. Depending on how much money and time you want to put in it you can use something like an r-30 batt, (or less depending on where exactly you live) or you could also try a product called Nu-wool.

As far as venting goes, if you have the money, you should buy (or make) a carbon air filter and vent your air through it and outside your house. The filter will take all of the smell away. You could even vent it through your roof with an air vent that is commonly used for venting dryers etc so your heat signature would not be out of the ordinary.

you may want to use maybe paneling or luan instead of sheetrock its much lighter. luan can be painted to match existing color. may want to paint the whole loft so your new wall doesnt look so new.

Thanks for the response. How about using the panda film as my wall and ceiling material(vs. using sheetrock, etc.)
I dont know much about panda film but frankly you could put anything you wanted on the walls. Sheetrock does almost nothing for keeping in heat so whatever fits your fancy would work just fine.
