Dark Hours, a few questions ?

Hi im growing three SLH in an alcove of my room and to stop my MH blinding me i hung a blackout curtain but it doesnt cut out all the light.

I have read its VITAL that total darkness is required and i intend to make it happen with some velcro and magnets


but i was thinking ... what about the moon ? surely when growing naturely there is never 100% darkness due to the moon.

also is it true you can use green lights should you need to water or enter the flowering area in the dark hours ?

What I really want to know is if you are using an 18/6 schedule through veg, do light leaks matter at that point? I have only ever run 24/0 through veg but may switch to save some $$.

yes, in 12/12 you need TOTAL darkness. If light enters during the off cycle, it can induce growth change and possible re-vegging.

you can enter into a room during veg, say on an 18/6 (Which btw, to save $, and also giving the plants time to rest, 18/6 is a good one to go with during veg, or even a 20/4 - that is debated in other RIU threads actually), and not hurt the plants during that part of the life cycle.

and yes to the green light. you can actually find earpiece ones, at least i could, that hang over your ear like a bluetooth headset, except its a green light. $10. sick. you cant use a flashlight in other words.
