Hey guys and gals. I was about 3 weeks into curing my summer harvest and today I noticed some mold!!! FUCK! Anyway I did some research online about it and I read some people will use a 0.2 micron filter when winterizing their bho to Eliminate the chance of any mold contaminating the oil. Has anyone tried this? I am new to making bho and I am open to suggestions. Here's the bud pics :(DSC_0349.JPGDSC_0347.JPG DSC_0348.JPG

0.2 micron filtration takes out the mold filaments and spores, but not the aflatoxins.

Molds growing on live plants like Powdery Mildew and Botrythis produce no known aflatoxins, but composting molds living on dead matter like Aspergillus, does. That makes identification of the mold highly important.

If it reared its ugly head during curing, it is most likely the latter, so not promising. Looks like you have well defined blooms, so you can check with a 100X microscope to identify them.

You can also view under a NDT black light, and the aflatoxin will phosphorescence green.

If you do have Aspergillus, I would let it finish its job of making compost out of the material.

DSC_0354.JPG good news, no growing green! Guess bho will be a thing after all. Going to cut the severely effected areas and blast the rest. Just bought some ever clear for winterizing

This is for my use only, I am cutting the buds now and the mold only is on the outside there's none when I pull them apart so I am cutting off the effected areas also to be safe... 2oz is too much to just let go to waste after a whole summer of care... I am taking every precautionary measure.

ive seen some really nice buds hit the trash over mold issues, sometimes you just have to let go. that being said to each their own and if yoyu are gonna winterize and .2mic filter I would feel safe smoking it.

Made the oil, waiting for filters to come in the mail to winterize. Here's a sneak peak... Kinda disappointed with the yeild I blasted 2 runs 2 cans of butane looks like I got about a gram from those almost 2oz of good looking buds... At least they didn't get tossed into the trash in vain. 2 grams out of an ounce? Normally I get that with about 7-8 grams of the good flower, doesn't have to be super fire but it's ample.

Have you tried water curing? Don't know if anyone mentioned that... Just soak it in water then exchange water for like a week or so I think until the water is Clean... Then dry and run... Look up details of water curing. But I did it and actually had a pretty alright smoke... Smooth not very tasty though but I would Not toss that bud

It makes it so hard to believe this works but it's been done. I just don't think I could live without that ...smell of fresh ganja that has been recently cured. Makes me really happy when that happens because there isn't much of an alternative.
