Crimping

Hey everyone, I've recently been trying crimping on my plants in the veg stage. I haven't really found anything on crimping on here, but I am new and may just be completely missing things, anyway some people wanted to see pictures I only have the one now but I can keep updating.

Crimping

Crimping is a technique where by you crush or twist the innermost part of the stem with your index finger and thumb. During crimping you should not damage the hard outer layer of the stem (so no fingernails!). This should be done no more than once a week. The soft innards of the stem is the phloem and xylem. In cannabis plants (all vascular plants in fact) the phloem is living tissue that carries nutrients (mostly sucrose and glucose) to parts of the plant where it is needed. By crushing this cellulose network it forces the plant to rebuild it stronger than before. While it is rebuilding, the lower branches increase their growth. This results in very similar effects to topping except you do not loose your top cola (it gets bigger!)

This technique can begin as early as the seedling stage. Work each branch every 2", up to once week. Do this by grasping the spot to be treated with two fingers of each hand. Use one hand to stabilize, while the other gently, slowly twists. Or you can twist with both hands in opposite directions, slowly until you feel a slight snap. On smaller branches, you do not need to twist, as firm finger pressure will rupture the herd.

I have been doing this for the last few weeks and it seems to be working really well, this is also my first grow and I'm using CFL's so that plant isn't amazing, but crimping seems to be going well. Here are some pics, I've been doing it above and below the first leaves.

I also have a grow journal which will probably but updated with photos more if you're interested in progress... https://www.rollitup.org/grow-journals/513522-my-first-grow-cfl-grow.html

Yeah, basically you crush the inner of the stem and it rebuilds stronger it also stops lateral growth to stop them from shooting up!

Crimping aka supercropping is one of my favorite training techniques. It helps even out the canopy with no pruning. You can do it more than once a week though, hell, I was doing it almost 3 times a week right before flowering kicked in.

Before, Suppercropped, After respectively.
