Cooltube Material

So I have made air cooled hoods before with sheet metal and a plate of glass, but i'm looking into a small scale vertical grow, and would really like to have a vertical cooltube in there. I'm not completely against buying one, but I figured I would ask everyone's advice on this idea before doing so. With my air cooled hood I was able to keep the glass cool enough to touch, so I'm not extremely worried about the heat resistance of the glass, but definitely correct me if I'm wrong there.

Is there any way to easily cut glass tubing? I was thinking of using something like one of those big glass cylindrical liquor bottles (like a handle without the handle) and cutting off the bottom and tapered top, just leaving a nice big clear tube. This is obviously dependent on being able to find a suitable bottle, but right now i'm more concerned with whether or not I will actually be able to cut off the bottom and top.

Any advice is greatly appreciated

Look on ebay for a bake a round

Its a pyrex tube that was made years ago to bake a loaf of bread.

Works great.

I read in one of the other cooltube threads that the inner diameter of these is 3.5 inches, is this true? I couldn't seem to find the dimensions on any of the postings on ebay. I'm sure that size would be fine for my current 150 HPS, but i thought the bottle might provide a cheap available solution for larger bulbs. (don't really know how big higher wattage bulbs get, so i'm not sure if this is even really necessary)

Well, I made one and use a 400w hps.

Its in my cabinet grow journal but I didnt really go into how I made it.
Yes the ID in a little under 4 inches but just get a duct collar and some rubber tape they use for camper windows and it works.

Sounds good, may have to give it a try when i start putting together my new set-up.
