Cool Tube is Hot and I'm Sad

I have a 6 inch cool tube with a 400 MH light in a 3x2x5 tent. I have it inside of a closet, venting out of a crack in the door. I have a soler and palau td-125 fan with a 197cfm rating, airflow (arrow on fan) pointing away from tube. Ducting is 8ft max, flexible 4 inch with a 6 inch increaser for the tube.

How does everyone get their cool tube cool to the touch and I burn my fingers? I can't get my temps under 93 F although my ambient is 78.4F. I ordered a S&P TD-100 for intake but since I can't vent far outside of the area will this even help?

Any suggestions? I tried everything my high mind could think of but I'm tired of burning my fingers testing my new ideas.

Your usinbg way to much ducting any chance you can shorten it up? I believe every 2-3 feet of extra ducting reduced cfm by 15-20% its a old article i read years ago so i might be a little off with then numbers. Im running 3 cool tubes with 2 600s and a 1000 cooled by 2 430cfm fans with maybe 6ft of ducting used in total its a sealed room 8x10x7 and dosent get over 85 in there. I run co2 so love were the tempetaure stays at. Got an ac just in a case but barely used it so far. Also make sure you using a centrifugal fan they push a LOT more air then inline fans.

I'm barely reaching that crack in the door (which I am proud to say I created myself ) so if I reduce the ducting I'll be venting right near the tent. I can't make holes either (apt). I chose the mixvent fan because it is super quiet, the tent is right near my bed and the sound of a jet engine would probably disrupt my sleep.

I can reduce the intake ducting, but I don't know if that would help.

j had a similar problem when i first designed my cupboard so i tried putting the fan at the start of the venting sucking cool air in and blowing it through the cooltube rather than at the other end sucking hot air out and now i can touch the tube

Get a stronger fan they sell nice 430cfm hydrofarm centrifugal fans for bout $70 can post link if you want

Do you have an exhaust?

I agree try sucking it out just makes sure u filter the open end so that dust and stuff doesnt get on the inside of the cooltube etc. You might need a 300cfm+ fam with all 6" ducting to get the desired results. I use a 720 CFM 8inch fan ran on 8inch ducting and then it splits to 2 6inch ducting with 1 cooltube each and then comes back together into 8inch ducting. I heard that each 90degree bend is 30% reduction in cfm and 45degree bends are around 15% etc. Based on this my 720cfm fan is only prolly doing around 500cfm and its enough to cool both Cooltubs with 600hps light in em. You might be forced to upgrade to all 6 inch ducting and a larger fan.

Reducing to 4" ducting really cuts down on the ability to move air. Think about a square and it is close to comparable. A 6" square is 36" of space. A 4" square is only 16" of space. You are reducing the surface for air flow by over 50% just by reducing the ducting.

You are going to have heat problems if you cannot move that ductwork further out to exhaust the hot air.

How quiet is it?

My ports are 4 inch. I really don't want to buy another fan seeing as I have 2 already and I was looking for quiet or else I would have gotten a vortex. Without the current setup my temps were 104+ so I know it's helping some.

If the intake doesn't bring it down I'm thinking of moving my tent near a window where I can exhaust the air out. I'm just concerned about stealth since I live in an apt complex.

heres what i do, and it keeps my 1000w on time... 6" vortex FTW!

also, dude youre not really venting anywhere...youre venting and pulling ait from the same room... its gonna get hotter. no get an inline, cut a hole in the cieling, and grow crippy nugs!!!

I am in an apt, I can't cut holes and a vortex is too loud. The tent is right next to my bed so I need a quiet solution. I know I'm not really venting anywhere, that's why I need help in finding an alternative solution.

There is a light in the closet. If I remove the globe can I vent through there?

venting into the light isnt going to do anything, you need to either vent outside or at least pull air in from outside -or buy an airconditioner for the room.

There is a central ac vent right over the tent. I wasn't going to vent into the light but remove the light fixture and vent into that hole but before I start unscrewing I was wondering the safest way to do this with the electrical wires there.

venting into the hole where the light used to be wont get you anywhere unless the space is large enough. unless it leads to the attic or another large space, it wont do any good

Your best bet would be to suck cold nighttime air from near a window (if possible). Then dump the warm air into your apt. You need to tighten up the duct work in your room. There seems to be lots of slack in there.

You keep saying that you don't want to add a centrifigul fan, but you are having a problem with cooling? Your options are slim here. You need to experiment with what u have. First thing I would do is get your intake near cold air. GL

i have a 400w hps and it stays about 82 during the day and low 70 high 60's at night, these booster fans are fairly quiet and work great, i have 1 bringing fresh air in and 1 taking heat hout str8 off the light

also im not sure if i read it right, but the duct tubing is being used to exhaust air out of the tent correct? if so you dont even need to make it go far at all, just barely outside the tent. you are killing a lot of the cfm from your fan like many people have said before

You are so right reducing to 4" will reduce air movement plus the fan he's using doesn't have enough cfm's too keep the bulb cool. I suggest getting a 6" fan with 6 " ducting that will end his problem
