Tons of spots.
There's a place off of West Cliff Dr. in Santa Cruz, CA. Just past Swift street (kinda near the end). It is the spot where Bradley from Sublime took the shot in the arm that wound up killing him. It's also beautiful on a clear day because you can see across the Bay to Monterey. There's a family of sea otters that play in the kelp, a tidal shelf you can visit when the tide is down, and a grotto carved into the face of the cliff you have to climb down to. Favorite place for sure. All of my friends from back home know EXACTLY what I'm talking about when I say "The Spot."
Really, most of the West Side of Santa Cruz is a pretty fraking spectacular place to smoke. Somewhere around the Light House and UCSC, and then west towards Panther Beach up the coast towards Davenport.
In Colorado, at the Ski Resort Winter Park/Mary Jane (yes, the mountain is named Mary-Jane, after a hooker who had been given the deed to the mountain for her... services). During the off season locals have built dozens of shelters, most of them haphazardly built from branches and pine needles but some are intense, on the mountain. Hidden from plain view in the trees and most of them hidden to those only in the know. I worked up there for a while and had a chance to see quite a few of them. Some took tools to build and I wondered how long it must have taken them to schlep all the lumber up the hill.
There is one spot that is my favorite though. It is on Mary Jane, build into the side of a cliff, and pretty difficult to get to because you have to go horizontally for a while on a very steep incline. A good edge is a must. Then, when you manage to find the trail You'll have to climb a ladder/stair to get up to it, and once your up there it has a fire pit, carved in seating, and full shelter from the elements. The view is out across the Valley and all at about 12,000 feet up in the Colorado Rockies. I was once up there and we hear some people talking, so we quit smoking (paranoia). Then out of the blue this dude drops off the top of the cliff. He had no idea the cave/shelter was there and was just doing some back country drop-ins. Dropped a good 20 feet and POOF!!! Powder flys up and he boards off. Then his buddy goes, mis-judges his speed, and lands half way up a tree hitting the branches on his way down. He was alright though. Cool as shit to watch. Not everyday you see that in person while blazing.
I've smoked in all kinds of spots, during sunrises in Cabo San Lucas Mexico, during thunderstorms on top of a Mountain in NorCal, at concerts, underneath of covered bridges, on a ski boat on Lake Tahoe... In the end, its more about who you are with, than where you are. Some of my favorite highs involved staying right here on the couch with some buddies and some brews.
Oh, and PS: If you posted something totally lame, a spot that required no explanation, a spot you described in like 10 words, then your spot is not worthy.
