Considering a grow tent- size vs number of plants + lighting

I've been tossing around the idea of getting myself a grow tent. I think it would make for a clean setup and would be easier to maintain than my current makeshift setup.

How many plants can you roughly fit in a 36x20x62 grow tent? Is that too small of an area?

Next size up that I saw was the homebox L

I'll be starting out with cfl grows until I learn more about indoor growing.

my tent is 32" x 32" x 63" and i love it. i haven't flowered in it yet and i have 11 plants in there so i know its gonna be a packed house. once i weed out the males in a couple weeks hopefully that will free up just enough room

i highly recommend the "dark room" series from bgh. they are bad ass!

i have a 39" x 39" x 79" and i have 25 plants in it.
5 rows of 5 plants all in 3 gallon grow bags trimmed for SoG ie: no branches on the bottom 1/3 trimmed at the end of week 1 and week 3 of flower.
i also run a 1000 watt HPS in it with a 250 cfm fan coloing the cooltube hood and a 424 cfm fan hooked to a thermometer outlet and a carbon folter to vent the room when it reaches 76 degrees and it works flawlessly.
makes for a clean grow room thats easy to control the environ ment like temp and RH.
and isnt as packed as you would think even with 25 plants in it

I recently purchased a 52x52x84. I have probably twent plants in there now, and plan on putting more in.

4X4x6.5 tent here. I love it. Its cooler inside than an open space is. I guess good control over the environment. I run a 400 hps with vented hood and a 6 inch duct fan with passive intake. Tent is the best thing to buy, i highly recomend it.

Thanks for all of the info.

I was looking at one that was 4x4x6.5 as well. I wasn't sure if it would be too big for the area I have. Though I am still a little worried that the smaller one won't give me enough height considering the size of pots and distance from the lighting.

hps is in the plans, but I'm not sure when I'll make that move

My original idea was to buy some pvc and fitting from the depot, make a frame and then wrap the whole thing in panda film.

I don't think it makes any sense at all to spend money on a grow tent if you don't already have a HPS. The light should be first you can use that anywhere, but a tent isn't going to improve your grow without a new light and doesn't do anything any recycled box or cabinet or closet or whatever painted white inside couldn't do.

ROI is in the light even if you have to go to goodwill and buy some used wood cabinet to cram it in or whatever.

Since I am still a noob, I didn't want to get too far ahead of myself. Not to mention I wasn't sure if I wanted to deal with the electric cost of a 400 watt hps. I thought about a 250 watt, but figured I'd end up wanting a 400 watt anyway.

I'd show you a picture of my current setup, but it's pretty lame. Closet wasn't an option. I tented off a small area and then used emergency blankets to help with the lighting.

A tent would at the very least clean everything up, help me control temps better and also help with the smell. I could filter the air out of the tent a lot better than what I am dealing with now.

My initial interest was in outdoor growing. But after trying a small grow and ending up with 1 out of 6 plants being female, I decided to try the indoor game. Starting small by doing some lowryder strains and at the moment focusing on seed runs.

good for you for the patience to take it slow. however, don;t be fooled by the hps bigots who claim they are too costly to run. 400 watts will cost you about $0.70 per day in electricity.

Disagree. It is a clean efficent set up vs. so slap stick taped together box. I used equiv. 100watt cfl's my first tent grow and it was nice. THEN BOUGHT HPS/MH ballast and lights
