Those that have gone, are attending, how is it, how was it? Was it the best years of your life? What's it like? Do you feel like it was worth the money? Mind if I ask what college you attended? How are the people? Do they teach you to distinguish between past and present tense in college? ;)

I am currently going back to school. I don't know if you would call what i do now college. I am getting my masters in aerospace engineering at the moment.

However i guess i could talk about college when i was getting my BS but still it was mech engineering and there are no crazy stories there.

all i can say is that my professors are some of the most intelligent people i have ever come across, my current graduate professor was a lead engineer for nasa's new mars rover. He was in charge of the re-entry portion of the expedition.


I have had friends that were able to party their ass off and enjoy free time, bet it was the best time of there life's. I was to busy falling asleep on my mountain of books.

so all i have to say

Engineering major = a very tough boring time at school with an almost guaranteed job starting with a high salary

oh also,if you have a good gpa with an engineering degree companies will give you co-ops to get degrees up to a phd.

that is they will expect you to work a year & pay for you to go to school the next year alternating until you get a higher degree

That's interesting, my first year of JC I was an engineering major..

Was it worth it?

I'd feel completely privileged being taught by your professor, that's amazing

Yea it was worth it! I cant tell you how many opportunities there are fore engineers. If you can do math i would recommend it. If you choose engineering i would suggest something harder then civil. Civil eng is important but they are limited by their field. I took mech because its much broader, its a little harder but it opens up your options to specialize in any field further down the path.

The only turn off i have for engineering is that by occupation it kinda make you feel like a weirdo. You will see the world through different eyes compared to most and you will make statements that no one gets, so you'er left there looking like a fool who told a joke that no one gets. Every thing will turn into a problem that needs to be solved and you try to make everything you see fit into an equation but that just comes with the territory .

I am deslexesic and my grammar/English is straight shit, but i can calculate the tip for dinning out faster then you can pull a smartphone out.

also if you take engineering you will get a better understanding about how the world around you works and that is my joy in life.

Yea you feel the prestige but it get old. The same guy who was bragging about his achievements ended our first session with " yea Google my name"

one thing they have in common is their uniform hatred for new text books. " the laws of physics haven't changed ... ever. why do we buy new books with fancier pictures every year"

college sucked ,ADD, so i have zero attention span unless im working, trade school was much better, although just as much BS

and university is crazy, didnt attend but i had friends that did (even attended some of their class with them) and it was non stop parting i was very surprised, could have been the dorm he was in , but man so many girls . . . .just acting out, it was a lot of fun, many unremembered nights . . .

It was a completely different world for me. I came from a very strict Mormon background. I made some great friends and we ended up doing some amazing things together. Trips, concerts, parties, hiking, biking, camping, etc., etc. I performed in outdoor theater for years. Met some great people. Had some wild times. Oh yeah, I learned shit too.

people say its the best years of your life because you dont work, you use the dorm to live, you pass tests and do stupid shit. people get pissed after that because they have to pay for how they lived and they love to bitch about o dont want to work. it makes them feel old after they get out because they dont think there is anything to look forward to. this 0lace is so fucking slow i cant wait to hit UNI this waiting for 2 weeks is really fucked up. im behind everywhere one on the east coast.

I will come back and quote myself from the other 3 'College... is it worth it'-type threads but for now I will tell you it is shitty.

It depends on where you go, what for, your timetable and the grading criteria/ how they go about teaching a certain subject, but I had to drop out after the firs tor second semester last time around. I wasn't getting any sleep, working until 11-midnight every day, my partners were generally unenthusiastic, my tutors gave no feedback and so much of what I was doing in class was either pretentious bullshit or the other end of the spectrum- extremely basic. If I could have stayed at my old high school where I got my diploma in design, I would have. I learned more there then on a course that was supposed to be extremely technologically and artistically based. Too many people going just to stay out of work.

I never went to one party or drank the entire time I was there. No time to. Not even in fresher's week.

Now I'm going back as I got into 2 different universities so I'll give it one last shot for my parents...

college is what you make it... if i could relate to to you how different I am, how awesome it is to be in college, i would. Its not just a free pass to do whatever, its like the choice to choose what you learn, find what you excel at, its like feeding my brain candy... I know so much more after one year, like factually, and it has opened my eyes to more than just what you are taught in public school. College is where you get to think for yourself

I always thought for myself, made my own decisions and have know what I want to do in life since 13. I was very lucky to go to a gig school that encourages that sort of self motivation and undependence too. I haven't learned anything factual since entering higher education. I'd rather go back to my old school for 3 years and do anOther vocational course. You are right it is not a free pass though.

well maybe it because of the program you chose?
im just saying, ive seen that happen with alot of medical assistant, coding, etc. students... they dont learn really anything, except for highly specialized nonsense.

yup its not that cool... i went and i was like 2 years older than everybody, they all think that shit is so much fun, but if youve been having real fun in your life and you go do that, its whack. if you want to learn about stuff do it on ur own, that debt and the situation ur in after 2-4 years of not working is super gay
if ur 18 u can go if your older forget about it

I worked my way through college. Didn't hamper my fun a bit. :D
