Personally I wouldn’t use coco in a recirculating hydro system as the way coco’s CEC works etc it could cause a build up of excess K due to coco using up Ca and giving back K in place of it.

if it was a drain to waste version then it might work but IWS system have a massive reservoir and as far as I know they recirculate.

if you want something that holds some moisture then you may want to mix some rock wool cubes with your pebbles.

when I ran a recirculating system I just started seeds/clones in Rockwool 1”X1” and then into 3”x3” and then into just pebbles.

I used to flood every 15mins with lights on and every hour during dark.

Thanks for the information. I’m about 3 weeks into flower using coco and pebbles and been struggling bad. I’m going to stick with it for now! But next time I will do what u said with the pebbles only with the Rockwool cubes. How was your yields when using the system with pebbles

Wonderful blast from the past. Thanks for sharing that. I remember that grow and I still miss Kite High.

Ah u used the wilmas. I’ve used them before with great results with coco and pebbles as they fed from the top! Problems I’ve been having is with the iws as it feeds from the bottom

I get that buddy. This grow was pebbles and rockwool.

still the same principles apply.

I’m just a 100% hand watering coco grower now.

Yer after this stress it’s made me want to go back to hand feeding lol
IWS systems though are killer mate. So don’t go back to hand watering.

the reason I chose the Wilma was because I couldn’t house the res where I grow otherwise I would have got an IWS 4 pot.

like I said though either utilise rockwool and pebbles or just pebbles.

I would never try coco in a recirc because of how the coco holds on to certain ions, the way it holds Ca and binds it and then delivers back K can really fuck you up if you’re not expecting it. Then you have to end up feeding just CaMg product for an entire res of feeds.

What are the risks or problems I can run into when using pebbles only with the Rockwool cube

Not much as long as you’re on top of your EC and pH monitoring.

sometimes fungus gnats like the rockwool.

other than that if you’re used to monitoring fluctuations in EC and pH and adjusring accordingly then you’ll love it.
